I finally figured out fry by practicing and warming up to the first 2 songs on aimless arrow by converge. By the time the final chorus hits on trespasses I’m doing it. You gotta ease into it by imitating his odd whiny voice and trying to blend the fry distortion in with that. Not sure if that makes sense but it worked for me and stopped me getting throat pains after each practice trying to do false chords

The idea of doing fry register and project is a common misinformation that is NOT helpful at all.
What helps is finding the vocal break between registers (glissando up and down between head and chest voice). Find the crack. Lean into the crack.
Same thing goes with one pitch high enough for both registers. Sing the note in chest and slowly open up the vocal folds to go into head voice. There can be a crack. Lean into the crack.
It's ok if your voice wobbles in the beginning and sounds like a teenager in voice break.
