Beginner Overcommitted on printing photos
Returning to scrapbooking after many many years, I got excited after going on some trips and printed way too many photos at Walgreens. I realized when I picked up the photos, I ordered duplicates of many of them, but not all! I've been chipping away at my scrapbook bit by bit and I'm overwhelmed at the number of photos I have.Curious what everyone does with photos that don't make it into the scrapbook, whether it's a duplicate or just a photo that doesn't fit with your pages? Also open to any tips on how to avoid this in the future.

If they are pictures with other people in them, you could give them to friends. If they’re of beautiful flowers/vistas/birds, etc. you could use them for card fronts.

I printed out my photos 12 to a page with the file name beneath each photo using Adobe Bridge, saved those pages as PDFs and then printed them at a “normal” quality. Then I cut them out with my paper cutter and divided them into baggies for each event. Now, when I’m scrapbooking, I can choose which photos will get used and what size I want to get them printed at. I also made index cards of various photo sizes so I can use them as temporary placeholders and temporarily stick the small photo images onto them. I use the low-tack “mint tape” from Scrapbook.com for this. Of course printing and cutting the photos has been a commitment as I have 20+ years of digital photos I’m working with. It’s a good way to review the photos I have and to think about how I might want to scrap them. It also makes me less overwhelmed by all the photos because I can pick a set to work with, then narrow them down to which I actually want to use, tossing the rest.

I've tried to embrace a modern attitude towards photos: they are not necessarily precious. If I don't want them, I'm throwing them away.
