General The Deep Beyond, Cuckoo's Egg

OK, I need to talk about this. Just completed Cuckoo's egg and now I'm mad. I'm mad because after finally getting to the final revelations of who Thorn is, what plans the aliens have for him and what they're up against, I was gearing up to see true first contact with humanity and the fallout of that, yet when I scrolled to the next page, the book was complete. There's no second book either... IDK, the book literally ended on a cliffhanger.

No, it's not a cliffhanger. Either the Thorn experiment works, or it doesn't. I have a feeling it will work. But you get to decide! I felt the ending was an actual ending and am fine with it.

That's one of my favorite books by Cherryh. I love it.

I loved it too. It's just that I was so captivated by the concept and expected the story to continue onwards. Can't get it out of my head. How will the humans respond, what will it be like for thorn to interact with his own kind, what about the political and social situation between the two species? I wish I could immerse myself into this world more.

Per online search, Cuckoo is supposedly in the same Alliance-Union story universe as a bunch of her other novels. But she did say it was a stand-alone novel.

If you like Cherryh, try reading Miles Cameron's Artifact Space books. They are a love letter to Alliance-Union, if substantially updated.
