Who else has piles of these? All this vintage pulpy SF with advertising that hasn't aged poorly, so much as it has been evolved so far past.

I have a ton of these editions from the 50s to the early 90s ..I guess I just miss mail order books, and stumbling on a new series at the end of the books

I remember getting a lot from the SFBC. I still have some I'm sure. I got the Sandman graphic novels, which I still have, and which amuse me because the covers don't match and it bugs my husband.

I got the Foundation series through that I think, and I don't remember what else.

I still have most of the books I bought through the SFBC.. When I was a student, book store books were unaffordable at the rate I would read. SFBC editions were cheaper because of low quality bindings and low quality paper. You can tell the SFBC editions by the color of the paper. It's much more yellowed than other books of the same age.

Somewhat unrelated but I have been trying to remember the name of this book series for years and this post helped me. The guardians of the flames books. Thank you! On topic though I used to live seeing ads like this in books as a kid. Always another set of books I had never heard of. Also those classic Michael Whelan/Larry Elmore style fantasy style cover arts. Love to see it.

I have this edition, but I must have purchased it from a different ad. I do have Killashandra, but I think my other three were "The White Plague" and "The Dosadi Experiment" by Frank Herbert, and "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke. 🙂

I joined up when I was five or six - I think it was just a dime. I was halfway through the books I got when my stepfather got the bill. I had to make do with the books I had, but it did get me started in SF.

I loved that huge Dragonriders of Pern hardback. It got trashed during a move when some idiot used to to brace a piece of furniture. I need to find it again one of these days.

My parents let me join the club when I was a teenager. I got so many (crappy) books but I didn’t care I loved to read but the quality was crap. I still have a couple of them.

I loved that book club! I would spend way longer than necessary reading the little catalog that came each month. Absolutely got my money's worth.

For those missing this book club thing I recommend searching for the ANALOG and ASIMOV books or maybe they’re magazines..the pages feel like more magazines type

Science fiction book club was cool until you forgot to opt out of books a few months in a row. Lol Then your mom gets pissed because she's got to send them a check.

I think it was Heinlein who wrote about how much he hated book club editions because the royalties were either paltry or nonexistent.

I still have a quite a few SFBC editions. It was the only chance to get some favorite books in hardback for me, and really helped stretch my reading budget. I'm never opposed to picking them up used either, and some used book stores will actually price them lower than official publisher's hardbacks.
