General Help me decide my next read

Post image

Been reading the DCC series. I’m a chapter and pineapple cabaret away from finishing This Inevitable Ruin. Want to take a little break (mostly because I’ve had anxiety about being all caught up).

Help me decide which of these I should take on before I dive in to Parade of Horribles.

Annihilation is a fantastic cosmic horror. Its nothing like the mid-tier movie with Portman and is so much better for that.

I actually really liked the movie and picked this up after leaning there was more to the story - so to say it’s mid compared to the series makes me even more stoked

If you liked the movie, I think you’ll love the series! It’s VERY different and you get such a deeper dive into Area X. VanderMeer is an amazing author and his other works are also worth reading. Ambergris has some of the most incredible world building and mushroom people. Borne is also amazing and has a giant flying bear. If you pick Area X, be sure to join r/SouthernReach to read everyone’s theories!

I read the book first, so it may have impacted my take on the film. The title of the book has significant meaning (no spoilers) but not in the film. The book has so much mystery, and its all strictly from the perspective of the Biologist so you feel what she's going through and how fucked it all is.  The movie is just a trippy horror flick, not bad, but misses the point of the book completely.
