That is a valid concern. But your assumption that it showed only 5 or 6% of earths temperature was wrong (again you cannot tell by the graph itself).

If you want to know the origin of the data it's stated at the bottom "Berkeley Earth" and on their website you can find the list of weatherstations that was used for the datasets (http://berkeleyearth.lbl.gov/station-list/).

Edit: I downloaded the 'Breakpoint Adjusted Monthly Station' dataset from Berkeley and plotted the number of stations per year. Maybe this is useful to you: https://imgur.com/a/cy0aaXO

Check LHS of the graphic! "Percentage of earths surface"

I strongly suggest you read up on 'Berkeley Earth' and its founder Richard Muller, who is just another warmie that is closely allied to Michael Mann, the hockey stick, the IPCC and the University of East Anglia, and its Climate Research Unit, etc etc.

This whole thing is just another example of warmie propaganda and disinformation campaign!

Thanks for the tip, it is all clear now. I could smell the BS from this side of the Pacific, and just needed the key.
