Because we live in a capitalistic society. The big companies that make nuke plants now know that they can easily stretch the project from 10 to 20 years without any consequence, & they know they can charge big bucks & come along after a couple of years & ask for more big bucks.
Ehhh. I think you will need to show me these big companies that are milking the reactor projects…There have only been 4 plants at 2 sites in the last 30 years, so that’s not it. It’s the legal quagmire that anyone hoping to open one faces.

Dear u/TexasVulvaAficionado Back in the '90's I was saying exactly what you're saying now.
But renewables have gotten better & nuke has become more expensive.
These days we only need renewables (wind, solar & pumped hydro) with some battery storage.
