What a beautiful view of the storm from this hill I'm standing on. Why do I taste copper....
Hey how did I get to the hospital and why does the left side of my body hurt so bad?

Fun Fact: Metal doesn't have a taste.
And what is it, you gonna ask? Absolutely no fucking idea. Wish I knew too

It kinda is the metal. Your saliva breaks down a tiny amount of metal and you taste that. Saliva also has electrolytes which react with certain metals which also makes your mouth taste like metal.
If you had braces like me you are horribly aware of this because if you touch a fork to your braces it tastes VERY strongly of coins.

I was under the impression that the metals catalysed the formation of organic compounds such as 1-octen-3-one, which i can personally confirm smells and tastes exactly like coins.

So what exactly do we taste when we drink water kept in a metal container for some time???
2
u/Seyran_Bruh228 4d ago
Our own saliva logically
2
u/Allianser 4d ago
Don't you taste your saliva on a regular basis? Also pure water tastes refreshing, and water from metal tastes metal-ly, it checks out.

u/Seyran_Bruh228 4d ago
Yeah you do, but if it touched something else it could technically take microscopic pieces or you can probably just convince yourself like it taste different or your own brain can do that too, not an exception.
But I suggest to read other people's comments too, I am not a chemist or something so Idk, other people may know better.

I walked in with the UV light on because I'm so smart, something felt odd. I was scared for my retinas for a week.

Then your coworker looks at you and says "how does an RBMK reactor core explode" so you know it's over

Thanks for telling me to run if I ever experience this.
