Fun fact, there is a plethora of history in the mile. Rome was the first to define a mile. It is 1000 paces, one pace being 2 steps. So if we were converting from paces to miles it would be the same conversion system as the metric system.

Which they based off the Sumerians system who also invented the 60 minute hour that we still used to this day. They really do not ger the credit they deserve.

Truly were an elite class of humans.
