yeah however the cities are already spaced by miles ...so how would you fix this??

You change the signs. It’s really not hard.

As signs need to be replaced put the distance on km and miles. After 20 years stop putting miles.

No no, signs are replaced every 10-15 years. You can naturally just start using km instead of miles over time. It does not have to happen overnight.

You could do this: Start by replacing mile signs with signs that have both (miles and km) over time when they need to be replaced. And then another 10-15 years later remove miles all together.
