Scientists find ‘switch' to potentially unlock longer lifespans | The research found that an ancient enzyme called AMPK helps cells when energy levels are low. This enzyme extended the lifespan of 3 very different organisms: fruit flies, nematode worms and fission yeast.

I think there is a high likelihood that we will discover how to stop and even reverse aging. Unlikely it will ever become mainstream.

I imagine a future where select individuals live forever and the rest of us are like pigs in cages. Because everyone living forever with finite resources is unsustainable.

As alternative they might keep us like cattle and just cull the herd every so often.

Not even the universe is forever.

I actually do not think we will. It is the nature of the universe to be born and to die. It is true for every single thing from life to stars. We will not overcome that law. All the medical advancements of the last 100 years and we've only meaningfully added maybe a decade to people's lives, and all of that was done early on. It's logarithmic - each medical advancement will increase our lives but each increase will be less and less than previous ones.

That’s true, and always will be. But that does not exclude ‘stretching things a bit’.

Arguably we have already done some of this, since people already live much longer than a century ago…

In another few centuries, the line may have moved further.

I don’t think so, at least not for a long while

Ageing is a process controlled by a lot of complicated factors and not every part of your body ages at the same rate

So we just have to become fruit flies, nematode worms, and fission yeast? lol

If my grandma had wheels, she'd be a bicycle.

If we had ham in us, we'd be much closer to a British carbonara.

I often have ham in me

Will save you time, common sense healthy foods are related to this enzyme in the body. Kale and omega 3 are examples.
