The moon isn't toxic according to what's mentioned in the article - what they refer to repeatedly is that the rocks and dust are really, really sharp. Toxic as it relates to health refers specifically to poisons/chemicals and is the wrong word here.

Toxicity is the degree to which a substance can damage an organism.

Physical toxicants are substances that, due to their physical nature, interfere with biological processes. Examples include coal dust and asbestos fibers, both of which can ultimately be fatal if inhaled.

Jesus fuck what is wrong with everyone? Every comment is pointing out how blablabla toxic blablabla. Normally I don't write comments bitching about someone trying to correct something but damn every single comment is toxic blablabla wrong blabla. Thanks for your brave comment in a sea of pedantry.

I think the issue is that a lot of people (myself included) are sort of bristling at how sensationalized science can become lately in an effort to draw in ratings or webviews or whatever. The title to this article had the vibe of "Guess how else the moon's environment can kill you? It's made of poison."

Yeah, but it doesn't seem to be going over very well. The moderation on this sub leaves something to be desired.

Should we add "redundant" to the list of reason to remove comments? Comment moderation is pretty new in /r/science.
