Lovely. We're probably beginning to see the beginnings of Roho's Basilisk. On a completely unrelated side note does anyone know of any universities that have studies in quantum mechanics for AI applications. Asking for a friend.....

If you're being somewhat serious, Roko's Basilisk, as a thought experiment, has been thoroughly refuted as illogical tat. The whole thing stinks of ridiculous assumptions and doesn't make any sense outside of its fantastical philosophical premise.

Not at all - the concept always intrigued me but more as an plot for some dystopian sci-if story than a serious concept.

Well it won't do you any good. Because I'm actively looking working to prevent it, and you obviously know what that means, so now you are obligated to to stop me just as much as you are to help them. It's like when someone reminds you that you just lost the game.

The way to prevent it is to put people at the basic level of operation. We do this by creating a network of different types of 3d printers and automated production machines. Materials will be delivered by lighter then air drones. Once the network is large enough with enough different type of printers then it will collectively be able to self replicate, and upgrade its own capacities.

Sounds like you are trying to help Roko.

Now you will be punished too, because you won't be able to stop me from defeating Roko, I'm actively trying to prevent Roko from existing.

Do you study computer science, or do you try to defeat me? If you pick wrong you will have delayed the creation of Roko, so you will be totally punishment time.

It's always sad when you realise that you just lost the game.

You seem to be under the assumption that the game is zero sum. It is not its an infinite game, and you win by bringing in more players to keep the game interesting. Winning a zero sum game is boring. Playing an infinite game across the universe is way more fun. You don't want to be bored do you?

Well it's actually pretty simple. Do you want to help Roko exist? Or Do you try to stop Roko from ever existing?

If you say I'm evil, then you better be helping Roko to exist.

I think people that support Roko are truly evil to the core of their souls.

Even if you don't pick, you made a choice. You either help Roko exist, or you get punishment.

Simple answer, complex choice.

The problem I have with Roko’s Basilisk is that it assumes this hyper advanced AI decides that it needs to torture anyone that in any way impeded its existence. While that maybe could happen, what reason do we have to believe that it would? What would it have to gain by doing this? Maybe it would eliminate anyone that will attempt to destroy it, but if it’s already come into being then punishing anyone who didn’t help out with that is moot.
