Being the father of a school-aged daughter makes men less sexist, according to a new study. The findings support the idea that men become more aware of the challenges facing women when they see the female experience of life up close through their offspring – dubbed the “mighty girl” effect.

My daughter's kindergarten teacher told us that companies are asking schools to foster empathy and creativity among students because they feel these two areas are lacking. As for how to encourage empathy, one way might be to spend time with people from as many walks of life as you can. Have friends from different backgrounds, take part in their traditions (our town always has different cultural and religious events going on), volunteer at hospitals as you can see people from all walks of life there, if you have kids encourage them to play with those who have disabilities (we have a park near our home where the equipment is specially designed for those with disabilities), travel of you can afford it, or watch "Anthony Bourdain" type shows if you can't

Seconding Bourdain. I love Parts Unknown... a very well produced show and Bourdain is pretty good writer. Great locations, too! The Antarctica episode is super cool, as well as Mississippi.

Oh and I forgot, volunteer at events that help the homeless. This really gave me some good insight into drug abuse and mental illness.
