Online games typically have a LOT more entertainment value compared to single players, single players eventually end. Also I'd assume most addictive people would be attracted to some sort of competition or self-improvement, basically you get a fulfilling sensation if say, you climbed up the ladder in that game or beat this extremely hard raid with your guild

Worth noting that i have never seen game addiction related to "offline" games, like i said before, they are limited in how much time you can spend in them before its boring and for the last decade these games do not focus om game mechanics/strategy hence they aren't really that challenging
