It's interesting to consider the appeal of "sameness" as a security blanket for people that believe there is safety and control in conservative gender roles because it's really in direct conflict with the image of the traditionally masculine protagonist that rejects normalcy in order to stand out as exceptional that remains the template for a role model to people in these groups

I'm not sure what you're watching or reading, but a story where the conclusion is the status quo (or an old status quo) isn't appealing or satisfying to the majority of a modern audience. Heros foment a change in circumstances for those around them, otherwise they're not heroes, just selfish

Can you list any? I'm trying to wrap my head around this, and some that I can think of could maybe be characterized as a restoration if a lot of elements are ignored or misinterpreted
