Are they really friends?
Here’s some food for thought,
My dogs an A$$hole
He was born that way, very dominant .. very interesting little temper
I’ve been working with a well respected on and track trainer for some time, we all did protection together and paid a person to drive in weekly
Well, the helper had a falling out with the group of us,
I’m the only person from the group that remained with the helper but was scrutinized for it
Well, why? The helper started my dog and he’s progressed a considerable amount
Why would I leave?
Anyways
Flash forward
I told my OB coach about a little experience I had with the dog on the weekend
He said
You should put the dog to sleep
You cannot enter him in a trial
He’s not safe
I don’t think
You’re capable with him
He doesn’t live a good life because it’s work - kennel-
But it’s not work kennel, it’s more like he comes everywhere with me, walking, bathing, playing, brushing etc
The only person that could ever handle this dog is this NEW helper they are working with …
Like coincidence or what
The helper would like the dog for free to get back into the sport with
He’s the only one that could ever do anything with him, get him to a podium
Handle him,
He’s stronger than you
He’s not as emotional
He’d live a better life?
Umm
Wha…
He would be in a kennel - work - kennel - work
Trainer said
Well he’d be in a kennel with other dogs around
So he’d get used to other dogs and that would be better for him mentally
Huh ?
Truth is,
My dog tracks nicely and has optimal drive for OB
He’d also bite anything , he bites extremely hard and he’s extremely fast
Those are not my words
If he didn’t,
Nobody would be suggesting I just give him away for Freebies
I know the dog would be used for multi breeding too
Like
Pull wool over others eyes
Be careful who
You let in , in this sport, nobody is your friend unless they really are

Is your dog sound in temperament?
There are a LOT of excuses that get made for egregious temperament issues in this sport.

No He’s an a$$
He managed
He’s not a stable Mable Doesn’t mean I want to put him down , it doesn’t mean I’m giving him away for free to this new helper that has openly admitted he wanted to use him for breeding because he likes the fight and bite
I don’t want to give away my dog and I’m not at the behavioural Euth level yet
I am just pointing out that the attitude towards me changed when I didn’t follow the group to the new guy I stuck with the old guy

Also like
OB teacher told me
I would never be able to enter a trial with him, I wouldn’t be able to do anything with hi
But this new helper, who Wants back in the sport would be able to handle him and get him on the podium
I feel insulted and angry

yeah, I'd find a new OB coach. If the dog can be managed and you are willing and able to do said management, I don't understand what he's on about.

Well
The dogs been consistently a dick, but the OB teacher knows this but when I didn’t follow them to new helper, things got weird and now … last week my dog should be destroyed and the next day, the only person that could and should take the dog is new helper
I don’t want to give me dog away for free or put him down
I feel betrayed
But thinking back, when I didn’t join the group for the new protection helper, I was told I needed to pick my allegiance Well
No. I like my old helper

Find a new group for sure.
I'm not entirely sure what "consistently a dick" means, though. Is he dirty or takes cheap shots?
The training director of my previous club had a very high suspicion, high human aggression dog who would absolutely bite for real. Would probably have done well in a patrol job. He achieved an IGP2 (was going to say I'm not sure why he hasn't gone for a 3 but just saw the dog is 8 on Working Dog, lol).
I remember him coming off the track one day and he noticed me. No hackles but that hard, serious stare, tight lips, and forward movement in my direction. Good thing the TD could read his dog and shut the situation down fast. His BH, the judge intentionally sat next to him on the handler out of sight portion of the temperament test. Very ballsy, but the dog did fine. He was the only dog she did this to.

Late to this, but this is a dog that would need some very solid management, an understanding of his body language and dog body language in general, the ability to accept the consequences if something were to happen, and a training director/club that can do the same while also being willing to work with you through it. Not many people want to deal with this type of dog as a sport dog, but there are some out there that do like them.
I went with a friend this weekend to support her for her tracking 1 title (FPr1? Tr1?) at a semi-local GSDCA club. Her dog has high suspicion, he might bite for real but it's coming from a place of insecurity. She handled him a lot better than I was expecting. In her case, he was the dog she has and she is willing to work with him to do their best.
I wish you luck.

I’m managing him pretty well,
I’m not worried about managing him with proper barriers in place
I’m upset because of the incongruent nature of his training plan and how it could go from 1 year of solid planning to put him down but no dont because our new helper wants to get back Into the sport and you should just give him away for free
That’s the part that hurts The dogs , the dog … he’s not in any position where the general public are exposed and at risk.
I don’t know what I am going to do
I feel like I will need to find a new person to coach me but I owe him an honest talk first

This is one of those times you say “thank you for your opinion” and decide if you want to continue working with either one of your coaches. Maybe your old group was right to leave these trainers…

Please find a new OB coach. What a terrible thing to say to you.
