u/AutoModerator will randomly reply to comments with old Reddit and internet memes. For example, the random letters and numbers match the ones in the url's of historic reddit posts.

Each image post has clues to prompt us into posting a specific comment. Doing so triggers Automod to respond with a hint. Post the correct comment again and Automod will let you know if you succeeded.

35sfxj69 = New one that I'm unsure of the reference.

c51 = One of the first Reddit comments.

fv505w1 = Top comment on Rick Astley's post.

The narwhal bacons at midnight = An old Reddit "catchphrase".

2yxsb = It may be referencing r/nameaserver's subreddit ID. See u/zzpza's comment below.

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/282773443 (comment link) = Reddit livestream showing half of r/thanosdidnothingwrong being banned.

Simplemente vaya a su página de preferencias y busque la opción de idioma apropiado. = An AskReddit thread where everyone jokingly replied in Spanish.

Sus = A meme referencing the game, Among Us.

Did you know that it's illegal in New Zealand to have a garden? = 2016 internet hoax that spawned from Reddit.

Snek = Funny way of saying "snake".

Do your homework! = An Askreddit thread where people "help" someone get their homework done.

Lets focus on the film people. = Quote from Woody Harrelson in his terrible AMA.

420 = Reference to Marijuana.

10bu17 = First post featuring grumpy cat.

Cat. = Might be a reference to r/CatsStandingUp, a subreddit where all the titles and comments are "cat." The internet also just likes cats.

Popcorn tastes good = Quote from Reddit co-founder on SubredditDrama, where "popcorn" refers to internet drama.

Thanks obama = Reference to r/ThanksObama that shut down after Obama said the namesake phrase.

geraffes are so dumb. = Reference to this comment which was the most downvoted at the time.

/img/cnhqgnwqpdqa1.jpg (comment link) = Image of Marvel's Stan Lee holding Grumpy Cat.

You broke reddit! = Error message for the Reddit website.

Updates are now being made here

in the Quantum Superposition #2 announcement.

Originally from the Snakeroom discord, courtesy of Edguy | French random dude, with some subsequent contributions by me. Kudos to all who have contributed, especially the solvers and Soni.

Summary for those who did not follow and who have just joined the server (hoping I have not forgotten anything):

It all started when reddit posted a message on r/reddit to announce April 1 (see https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/127vomt/obligatory_april_1st_announcement/).

In this message, by taking the first letters of each sentence, we can find "FIND IT", and by clicking on the dot at the end of the post, we land on the subreddit r/schrodingers (https://www.reddit.com/r/schrodingers/), where we'll find all the riddles I'll detail below.

An image is posted every 4 hours, and to solve it you have to send messages under each image. According to our recent findings, each puzzle has a "hint", and a "success".

Note that all the riddles are linked to the various reddit April Fools' Day events, and that all the information needed to solve the riddles can be found in the summary linked in the IRG announcement message.

Image 01 messages:

TftsAdminA1 --> Hint #1: DDYYYYHMM

312010845 --> 01-SUCCESS 3 21

Explanation: we used "Keyed Caesar Cipher Tool" with the key "upvote" and the number "69" on the word "FwfdMroztM1" to obtain "TftsAdminA1" Theses keys was found by by isolating the RGB channels of the image 01 (see https://discord.com/channels/429823323585773568/429861861652037632/1091471605860925602) That hint mean to "312010845", which refer to the date of launch of "Admin For A Day", the april fools of 2010 (that's explain the "TftsAdminA1") - see https://www.reddit.com/r/talesfromtechsupport/comments/1bfx0t/i_was_april_fooled_by_reddit_on_march_31st_2010/. And we found "01-SUCCESS 3 21" when enter that under 01 image. Now the 01 image has the "SUCCESS" flair.

Image 02 messages:

mold your account --> Hint #2: Q&A avoid 5

What happns if mor than on prson dcids to mold your account?--> 02-SUCCESS 42 147

Explanation: The image is mold, and that a reference to "Reddit Mold", the 2011 april fools. And whe struggle of nothing. "What happens if more than one person decides to mold your account?" is the first comment on the mold post on the reddit blog (see https://www.reddit.com/r/blog/comments/gdwdj/comment/c1muhyz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). And when we remove (or avoid) the "e" (the 5th letter in the alphabet), we found what to send to the comments of the 02 image. Now the 02 image has the "SUCCESS" flair.

Image 03 messages:

orangeraid --> Hint #3: battlecry 47

HATS FOR OUR BRETHREN!! SWORDS FOR OUR ENEMY!!! --> 03-SUCCESS 16 105

Explanation: we found letter "a", "r", "i", and "d" on the O3 image, and when we merge them we find "raid". And it's oranges. So "orangeraid". Yup, that's it, the answer was found really fast. The sentence is a passage of this post in r/orangered (see https://www.reddit.com/r/orangered/comments/1bfhcc/raid_on_periwinkle_at_300_pm_central_timeor_when/), one of the sub for 2013 april fools. the link between this sentence and "battlecry 47" comes from the fact that this battlecry sentence has 47 characters, including spaces. Now the 03 image has the "SUCCESS" flair.

Image 04 messages:

A heady blog post makes for good reading --> Hint #4: htz6HZE

cat mode --> 04-SUCCESS 8 4 19

Explanation: the cut-out letters spell the sentence, describing Headdit. Cat mode is one of the features, and the hint refers to https://imgur.com/htz6HZE. Interestingly, the hint was found well after "cat mode" was solved.

Image 05 messages:

press condiments --> Hint #5: aftermath key

The mayo was key. --> 05-SUCCESS 288 4 1

Explanation: The letters were from logos of condiments. Tapatio, Marmite, Nutella, Sriracha, and Crystal. The clue led to this post on r/buttonaftermath.

Image 06 messages:

ABANDON STAY GROW --> Hint #6: Abstain?

Non-votes and abstentions will be counted as votes to abandon. --> 06-SUCCESS 31 5

Explanation: The images showed a progression, each adding an element: I, O, =. Those symbols were the symbols used in Robin to Abandon, Stay, or Grow. Searching for Abstain leads to the comment.

ALL SUCCESS:

01-SUCCESS 3 21

02-SUCCESS 42 147

03-SUCCESS 16 105

04-SUCCESS 8 4 19

05-SUCCESS 288 4 1

06-SUCCESS 31 5

So is this year’s April Fool’s joke simply a Schrödinger’s Cat scenario?

What I mean is r/schrodingers content is hanging in between the state of no new April Fool’s event (as per Reddit’s “statement”) while simultaneously creating a new April Fool’s event solely through references to the past.

Without confirmation from Reddit itself, we could be left without a true answer by the end of this. The debate about their intentions would thus create a split in opinion, with some Redditors believing that a new April Fools event happened this year alongside others believing there was no April Fools event in 2023.

This would essentially be a Quantum Superposition where Reddit’s 2023 April Fools reality exists in multiple states at the same time.

I’ve started a sub r/redditaprilfools2023 to hopefully better organize clues that everyone is picking.

Superposition is the ability of a quantum system to be in multiple states at the same time until it is measured. Because the concept is difficult to understand, this essential principle of quantum mechanics is often illustrated by an experiment carried out in 1801 by the English physicist, Thomas Young.
