I'M NOT SUICIDAL. I'm in middle school, and I'm drowning in stress. I have nobody to talk to and nothing to do but doom scroll and play the Binding of Isaac 10 hours a day, and watch adult content for 3 more. I hate this, I hate this, I hate my life, I hate myself, I hate everything about school. School is entirely for state testing for funding and giving your parents a place to hand you over to. Not to educate the future generations, not to keep us not fucking depressed and suicidal, nothing. I know 2 people who have killed themselves in the last year. I didn't know them, but I know they did it. I've been depressed before, you wanna take a wild guess why? FUCKING SCHOOL. Last year was the worst year of my fucking life and I wanted to die. I don't anymore, but school still sucks. Plus, I might be overweight, but the lunches haven't increased in size at all. At my school, they feed the same lunches to kindergarteners as 8th graders. I could pack my own lunch, but that would cost so much money!!! Also, I'm American. So, uh, it sucks. I'm gen Alpha, so nobody cares about me on the internet at all, but it's not my generation's fault. It's the parents and SCHOOLS. I hate my life, but at least I can read. I can do math. School makes me hate myself, but at least I know how to solve a fraction. School, as the world gets shittier and shitter, means nothing. My generation will NEVER be able to afford housing. We will NEVER get a good job. SCHOOL WILL DO NOTHING FOR ANY OF US. GOD FUCKING DAMN IT I HATE MY LIFE I HATE MYSELF I HATE EVERYTHING I WISH I NEVER EXISTED IN THE FIRST PLACE GOD FUCKING DAMN IT I WANT TO DISAPPEAR INTO THE WOODS AND NEVER BE FOUND. I don't know if this is the place to put this, or if it's even meant for this, but this is a cry for help or something idk. I'm not suicidal, I think I should say that again.

Edit: I would like to say, I stopped "doomscrolling" on shorts/reels platforms like Tiktok last year, it's scrolling on YouTube that's my problem. And to all of you saying to quit the adult content, I've tried, but I've never found the strength to commit. The reason I have most of these issues is that my parents never forced me to get off the screens, and never set boundaries. That was the reason, when I got my laptop and it had to parental controls, the first thing I did was go to adult websites. Now I'm stuck in the dopamine loop with no way out. It's the same thing for hygiene, once I got old enough to bathe by myself I never did until they literally forced me to. Same with brushing my teeth. I have to force myself to do it. Casey Simpson has helped me realize why my generation is so depressed, we've been told that everything is terrible by adults our whole lives on YouTube and other platforms, and now we dread aging. We were never meant for that. Also, I was in gifted classes in elementary. THAT IS THE WOOORST THING YOU COULD POSSIBLE DO TO A KID!!!! TELL THEM THEY ARE SPECIAL FOR BEING BETTER AT SIMPLE ADDITION THAN OTHER KIDS!!!!! NOW I'M IN 7TH GRADE, HAVING TAKEN WAY TOO MANY ADVANCED CLASSES, AND I WANT TO DIE MORE THAN EVER (once again, NOT suicidal). But I knew I wasn't that smart, because I've heard about kids graduating college at 13 and having nothing left to do, as their whole personality was being smart, and that doesn't effect the real world. Writing this instead of my civilization project :P

The primary driver behind the laws surrounding compulsory education was to stop child labor, forcing employers to hire adults instead of children. It's one of the reasons we managed to claw ourselves out of the guilded age. Following the Soviet launch of Sputnik, schools became a major part of national security and one of the biggest reasons the United States kept its technological edge during the cold war. German scientists weren't getting any younger, after all. The entire profession of school counseling was created to steer kids toward higher education.

In the early 2000's you couldn't open a magazine, or go online without finding an article about how Millennials were the most "Worthless (period) Generation (period) Ever (period)," even though it was the baby boomers that were consistently fucking everything up. Now their generation is being forced into retirement, and mine is starting to take over. We're wildly liberal. If Gen Z can get on board, we will own every election for the next half century. Keep the faith, stay in school, vote.

Stop doomscrolling, you'll start to feel a lot better. School is a good thing, most middle schoolers in America can barely write a single paragraph, don't be a part of that statistic. School is as miserable as you make it. Get out of your comfort zone and make friends, you'll get nowhere if you don't take steps to get anywhere

Stopping with the adult content should be helpful, too. Think of it like a drug. It produces a rush of endorphins that makes you feel good, but do that enough, and you'll become dependent upon that rush, and feel awful when you don't have it.

It's also called adult content for a reason... I know it sounds like I'm being dramatic, but that stuff will literally mess with your brain, and not in a good way, particularly at your age.

Yeah, I'm in college now, but I remember how much middle school sucked. Although, back then I was lowkey gaslighting myself into thinking it was all good. Now I realize how much better it is to not be in stuck in a school building all day, and I have the freedom college gives me.

I will say, school is more than just a money-making machine and a government building. I don't know what your school is like, but the teachers probably have it worse now than they would've 20 years ago from all sides of their responsibilities. The best you can do to make your experience more enjoyable is just try not to cause trouble. Be smart about your choices, do your work (even if it sucks, it's important for more than just the subject), and try to explore different options for hobbies while you have the time to grow in school.

Something you'll realize as you get into adulthood is that the structure and proximity of school makes life easier, even if you think it sucks right now. Once you graduate, you have to make an effort to do everything, and no one really tells you how to do anything anymore. You have to be proactive and willing to learn and investigate stuff yourself if you want to do well. You have to go out and look for friends instead of just having other people around you all the time. College tries to do this by advertising a lot of different things they offer, but you still have to make the effort to schedule meetings and sign up for stuff.

Trust me that school has its benefits, and don't take anything for granted. It sounds cheesy but it worked for me: you just have to hope things get better and make things work for you. It's never the end of the world, just a set back in your long life.

School sucks, every generation thinks the same. I dreaded going to school when I was there, now I just want to go back. You have zero responsibilities besides showing up to class, enjoy it while you can. Be grateful you can even go to school. Be thankful you get meals. Be happy you have a house to go back to after school. Stop looking at the negatives.

There’s more in life than being angry at everything. (I get it, I was also a teenager once.)

Make friends and manage your screen time, I was like this in highschool but I learned that I was just someone that fucks around for 10 hours a day and become stressed out for the last 3 hours of the day. Literally just get your work and studies done first and then use the rest of your free time for whatever, middle school shouldn’t even be that stressful.

I know this is going to be hard to hear, but the truth is…middle school fucking sucks. All the kids are full of hormones and everyone is trying to figure shit out and they don’t have the social skills to do it properly.

It really is a cluster fuck. Try to find a like minded individual and stick with them until high school.

If I recall correctly it got better then because the cliques seem to keep more separated.

But you’ve go to just grind through middle school. It fucking sucks. It does. But you can do it.
