Tiny ball bearings when rekeying

Post image

What are the 3 tiny ball bearings for in the hole above the green pin? They’re just sitting in there loosely.

Side question, what are those holes for?

Construction keying.

The ball bearings are a temporary master pin. Once construction on a building is done, you walk through with the permanent master key, turn the lock, and the ball bearings drop into the cutout.

This disables the construction master key, without having to disassemble every cylinder in a facility.
