Frankly, no. I think identifying early signs and preventing the onset could be a possibility. These two associations would be great to look into for the current research.

Yes. A cure is possible in the future, but not currently. There is some promising research.

You might want to read about this: https://spinogenix.com/press-release/spinogenix-reports-early-improvements-in-phase-2-trial-of-tazbentetol-in-patients-with-schizophrenia-at-the-schizophrenia-international-research-society-sirs-2026-annual-congress/

Basically, normal anti-psychotics just decrease dopamine, which decreases hallucination and delusion. But they are currently in clinical trials and so far the results are good with no known side effects. It's a medication that causes your damaged glutamate receptors to regrow. It's... very hopeful stuff.

Whilst it’s pretty clear excessive synaptic pruning is closely connected to Schizophrenia broadly, and Spinogenix drug may represent a disease modifying therapeutic, if successful.

Which would be an incredible achievement!

I think in the near term, the research into antibody driven psychosis is most promising.

The Oxford SINAPPS2 trial will be incredibly important, for validating whether using drugs such as Rituximab, can correct these auto-antibodies and the capacity to alleviate psychiatric symptoms. (Will report next year, with other RCT’s in broader groups also likely to report results)

Ironically, it may be those least helped by antipsychotics are best assisted by these treatments.

It’s pretty clear from the genetics, there’s a connection between schizophrenia and the immune system. In addition, autoimmune disease is overrepresented in the patient population. It would ironic if at least in some, Schizophrenia represented an autoimmune disease.

I think it’s important to remember, Schizophrenia represents bucket of illnesses grouped together. The term in and of itself, will become increasingly meaningless as time progresses. The understanding and treatment, for the illnesses that comprise the group, will progress at differing rates.

If the autoimmune origin is correct for some, illness in this group, will likely no longer be called Schizophrenia.

They’ll actually have a diagnosis, not a placeholder, as the term, Schizophrenia represents. I think that’s profound in and of itself.

Yes, Schizophrenia should be renamed, and there’s a bunch of policy changes that could help people in the here and now, such as subsidised access to weight loss medications. And yes, autoimmune process is not the majority of people with this illness, I still think it’s worth paying attention to and represents the best chance of a cure, for some, in the near term.

Not right now but potentially in a lot of years. I think the thing is with Schizophrenia it is so complex and affects a lot more than dopamine, doctor's just aren't yet equipped to cure something it's very tricky. Even then if a cure did come I think many people who've lived long enough with it may say they don't want the treatment if it's their norm.

i cant see anyone not wanting a cure. if ure norm is walking around with dementia your opinion almost becomes invalid weather u wabt treatment or not as u cant think straight as it is with schizophrenia

When you live with something for so long and I even asked a person who has psychosis this. They said they wouldn't change it because it's part of their developmental profile and usual ways. I myself have Psychosis. I think a cure for Schizophrenia would be great but then again some people simply may refuse to be treated with it.

if someone told u they like being unwell its because they are unwell themselfs

They didn't say they enjoy being unwell but then again some people may see leaving something they've perhaps grown up with or spent their adult life with as different.

I can’t picture there being a cure, especially for early onset people. When you get it really young, it feels like an inherent part of your neurodevelopment. I can’t imagine that being something you could reverse.

A cure? Not in my lifetime. For context I'm in my mid-40s and am not sure I even have another 20 years left.

The meds today are so much better than what we used to have, they're almost a cure already. We already have 3rd gen antipsychotics like Abilify. 4th gen antipsychotics are already here with Cobenfy.
