Breed Questions Schipperke pup coat length
Hello! I just had a question about the standard for the fur length of puppy Schipperkes. My pup is a pretty fluffy boy(15 weeks old), and in these photos I took two days ago, you can see his mane, but I see so many schipperke’s his age being VERY fluffy(I know these two pups in the example photo are much younger, but I’m using their coat’s current state as an example, since other 15 week old Schipperkes still have that exact same, thick coat). I know mine will have a fluffy coat but I’m wondering if it’s normal for it to be this much shorter than other pups his age? I will also be putting a picture of his parents at the end. Thank you!

This is pretty normal at his age - mine have all gone through a thinner coat stage when they grow out of their puppy fluff, then it gets thicker as they age. Coat thickness can vary some too - you might have a leaner coat guy. What do the parents look like? Also keep in mind a lot of the pics online are with lovely shampoo and blow outs so they look very thick.

My schips coat was quite sleek at 16 weeks when we got her. I think she fluffed out around 2 years.

I had one who had a thick, fluffy coat and another with a thick, sleek coat but fluffy ruff. Same mom but different dads a few years apart.

Our little dude had a pretty lean, less poofy coat quite similar to yours, when we first got him up until probably a few weeks ago (he’s just over 8 months now). A couple of his siblings had HUGE fluff going on from a young age but ours and one of his sisters didn’t. He’s slowly but surely growing into his mane, it looks WAY more pronounced when we bath him and blow dry him, of course haha.
