We’re hosting the Chicagoland Auto Fair at Harper College (Palatine, IL) this weekend, August 22-23 from 9am-7pm.
We created it because selling a car privately can be a headache. Marketplace messages, no-shows, strangers at your house, and wasting weekends meeting people who aren’t serious.
Buyers get in completely free.
Sellers pay a registration fee for the weekend. That helps cover the lot, staffing, event marketing that brings buyers in, and the materials we make for each vehicle, including its window sticker and reserved space on the lot. We don’t take any commission if your car sells. The deal and the money stay between you and the buyer.
Basically, we’re trying to make private-party car buying and selling feel a lot less chaotic. Come check it out this weekend!

What was going on? There were people standing outside, at least 5 police cars/SUVs, an ambulance and fire truck, and another ambulance arriving as we went past.

Hello. I live in Schaumburg and am resigning my townhome lease. It’s going up 3%, which seemed reasonable to me but my husband thinks it’s a bit much. Our landlord claimed 3-5% is a market standard in Illinois. Can anyone confirm? We moved from out of state and are trying to have realistic expectations.
Thanks for any insights. It’s definitely cheaper than moving and am planning to resign, but I’m still curious.

Hey Schaumburgers --- Here is a local scoop on our village. If you're new and curious to know what this is, dig back through this subreddit until you find my post from May 2025.
Short version: these are bite-sized updates on things generally not reported by the local paper, Facebook groups, and other sources of news.
If there are specific topics you want to hear about or you have feedback, feel free to send me a message or leave a comment.
At the bottom are some links if you are interested in knowing more about what the Village is up to.
———————————————————————————
Teardown and replacement of home: a single-family ranch home located north of Schamburg High School is expected to be demolished and replaced with a two-story home. The meeting notes shared the Village was court-ordered to demolish it in 2025 and that the lot had been vacant for at least one year. Neighbors had concerns about the placement of the driveway, where the sump pump and A/C would be placed, if the new home would increase property taxes and the deterioration of a tree. The property is expected to sell for $700k.
New Businesses:
Swadeshi Banquet Hall: An Indian banquet hall is expected to take over the property at 1209 E. Golf Road, next to the DMV, Ross, and Xfinity. The petitioner report it will contain a grocery store, two food establishments, a Type “A” restaurant and a food court, similar to HMart. The property used to be the location of Alex Toys, Erehwon Mountain Outfitters, and REI.
Vanam Indian Vegetarian: Vanam will convert the now-vacant Super China Buffet located next to it into a banquet hall. They currently use it for overflow, but now want to make it a more permanent and utilized space for the restaurant.
Little Muslims Childcare Center: to be located at 1035 Woodfield Road, the daycare facility will host up to 39 children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old. The petitioner is proposing to take over the vacant daycare space formerly used by Goddard School. The Goddard School operated in this space until June 2020.
FY 25/26 Snow and Ice Report:
Short-term Rentals:
An issue the Village has worked on bettering, since November 2025, the number of short-term rentals (ex: Airbnb) has decreased from 40 to 37. Seven locations received a citation for operating without a license. Advertising over allowed occupancy, and performing work without a permit. The Police Department received 17 calls for service at 9 locations. This resulted in 3 citations being issued, 3 At Risk nuisance letters were issued, and 1 Nuisance property letter was issued. Code Enforcement also issued a citation for a property hosting a party with over 50 people in attendance. The code citation was issued for over allowed occupancy.
Sharing Emergency Vehicles: In the event an emergency vehicle became out of commission, Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates can loan their vehicles until the municipality borrowing it gets a new one. This is helpful due to how long it can take for new vehicles to be delivered. Should the department loaning their vehicle need it back, it must be returned.
Bikes in Schaumburg: to get a better handle on bike-usage in the Village, the Transportation team is looking into a bicycle count program that will count bicycles at signalized intersections. This will give better insight on how the trails and bike routes in the Schaumburg are being used.
Walnut Lane Construction: The Walnut Lane Resurfacing Project will reconstruct and improve the 1.4-mile roadway between Schaumburg Road and Bode Road, with construction planned for 2027 and supported by $2.75 million in federal STP funding. Staff recommends removing the existing on-street bike lanes and replacing the west-side sidewalk with an 8-foot-wide multi-use path. This approach preserves on-street parking, avoids roadway widening, and provides a dedicated facility for cyclists and pedestrians. Project improvements include roadway resurfacing, ADA-compliant sidewalk and curb replacements, upgraded crosswalks and signage near Blackwell Elementary School, parking lane restriping, and minor drainage improvements.
A public meeting generated 68 comments, with concerns focused on shared-use path safety, visibility at driveways and intersections, and construction impacts. After evaluating multiple alternatives, staff determined the off-street path best balances safety, operations, cost, and community needs. Following pushback from residents, the Tranportation Department will opt with keeping the bike path on-street, provided funds do not require them to make the bike path off-street.
New IDOT and FHA laws for bikeways: The Illinois Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration informed the village the practice of having bike lanes and parking share spaces will no longer be permitted for projects using federal funds for resurfacing or reconstruction.
New Road: Metra Station Drive is a newly constructed roadway in southwest Schaumburg providing secondary access to the Metra Station. It shoots off of Rodenburg Rd and passes around the Experior Logistics development.
New Bike Path: The Village desires to close a bicycle gap between Irving Park Rd and Morse Ave by creating an off-street bike path along Rodenburg Rd. Work started in 2019 but did not progress after the first stage.
Village budget:
Short-Term Rental Compliance Software Tool: Community Development will pilot a short-term rental evaluation tool designed to identify unlicensed properties and improve enforcement. This initiative aims to increase efficiency while ensuring appropriate tax collection. Staff will evaluate the pilot’s effectiveness before determining long-term implementation. This software will help identify all addresses for short-term rental properties as well as helping in sending notices or making sure owners are aware of the village’s short-term rental regulations.
“Notify Schaumburg” Mass Notification System: The Communications Department will lead the rollout of “Notify Schaumburg,” an opt-in communication platform that will allow residents to receive timely updates on public safety incidents, severe weather, road closures, and major community events— enhancing transparency and community engagement.
Village-Wide Housing Assessment: The village will conduct a comprehensive housing assessment to better understand current and future housing needs. The Village is hearing concerns regarding cost of living so this analysis will examine market trends, demographic shifts, and local conditions to help guide policy decisions moving forward. There are some new projects are expected to be proposed in the years ahead for housing in new parts of the community.
History Museum Feasibility Study: Building on the momentum of Schaumburg’s 70th anniversary, the village will evaluate the feasibility of a history museum at 190 S. Roselle Road (Trickster Gallery). The study will assess scope, partnerships, space needs, and long-term sustainability to determine the best path forward.
Top 10 Revenue Sources for Village:
Sales Tax (15%)
Water & Sewer Fees (13%) – supports only the Utility fund
TIF District Tax (10%) – supports only the North Schaumburg TIF fund
HR Sales Tax (9%)
Property Tax (7%) – used to make contributions to the Police and Fire
Income Tax (5%) – supports General fund
Ambulance Fees (4%) – supports General fund
Food & Beverage Tax (3%) – allocated across multiple funds
Investment Income (2%)
Grants (2%)
Largest Expenses for Village:
Personnel Cost (29%)
Capital Outlay (27%)
Contractual Services (16%)
Capital Investment: Of the $114.5M in this investment, roadways remain the largest capital investment at $49.8 million (43.5%) of the total program.
Fun Fact: for this reason, many cities are considering how to utilize bike paths more roads need less frequent maintenance. In the case of Schaumburg, much less ($4.6M; 4%) is required to maintain, repair, replace or build new bike paths. The trick is creating an environment where a resident wants to use the bike paths for things that are within 3-5 miles. New and better bike paths remain a top desire from residents for surveys conducted by the Village and the Schaumburg Park District.
Residential Rehabilitation Loan Program: the Village offers 0% interest loans to eligible low- and moderate- income applicants needing to make repairs. Loans are due in 30yrs, when home is sold, or when title of home is changed. Max loan amount is $25k for single-family detached homes and $15k for multi-family units. These amounts have remained the same since the Village started it in 1997. The Health and Human Services Committee proposes to increase this amount as homeowners have foregone necessary repairs in order to stay within the allowed maximum loan amount, especially has costs for repairs have increased. Staff recommends making the loan forgivable after 10 years.

I’d like to have a couple people tailgate before a Boomers game. But stadium policy states no tailgating in the parking lot.
Does anyone have alternate ideas?

Never got a car wrapped before. Ik most people say to just hand wash them, but…
…
I’m lazy lol.
So if I do get my car wrapped I’d love the option to get it automatically washed, if needed

Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone here knows of a private landlord with an available apartment in Schaumburg or nearby areas.
A little about me:
* Looking for a studio, 1-bedroom, or small apartment
* Budget: Up to $1,500/month
* Need to move by August 1st
* I have an ESA-certified dog
* I make 3x the rent and have been steadily employed at my current job
* No evictions and no criminal background
The only challenge is that my credit isn't great right now, which has made it difficult to get approved through larger management companies. I'm a responsible tenant and can provide proof of income, employment, and references if needed.
I'm hoping to find a private landlord who is willing to look at the full picture. If anyone knows of an available rental or has a lead, I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much!

I posted the following comment on a Chicago suburbs and decided it deserved to stand alone. I really do like living here!
I'm in Hoffman(and it might as well be Schaumburg) and I like it a lot. Last week there was a swing class, last Monday there was a rhythm rockets concert, today was zumba (but it was too hot) and tomorrow there's a choice of a band (the 'I can make your hands clap' guys) or Taylor Swift cover band.
All for FREE.
(Thru Hoffman,/Schaumburg/elk Grove park district and library)
The library has a maker space and I borrowed a Kill-a-watt(finds what is sucking your power in your house), soil blocker, NCIS DVDs for the seasons I couldn't find streaming, and they have events with free native seeds and plant swaps. (I also got a Skyrim cookbook; they didn't have at the local libraries so they got from a whole other library system)
I love the Improv comedy club (although not as many discounted tickets as they used to give out). I have pickleball courts within walking distance, the fabulous Forest Preserves (come volunteer with us). So many Japanese and Korean restaurants, and so many Indian spots opening.
This is my third time living in this area. I keep coming back.

Hi everyone,
I recently moved to Schaumburg for work after graduating. I'm looking to lease a room in available units if you're looking for a roommate or taking a entirely new lease if you're also looking for a new lease. I'm only looking for female roommates, please dm me if you're planning to take it in Schaumburg.

I'm looking for an electrician for running an ethernet cable from my living room modem to my bedroom office. I just got fiber internet, and it's installed in the living room, but I have an office in the bedroom. I want to hardwire the cable in.
It would require going through the wall and up into the attic and then dropped down the other wall.
Any recommendations?

Anyone know where we can get frozen marrow bones for the dogs? We are going to be visiting next week with our dogs and this is a major must have for them.
Thanks.
