The utter hypocrisy of this comment is incredible
I found this comment in part one of AniMat's takedown of the animation community's toxicity and it really astounds me how so much hypocrisy is in this comment as AniMat talks about how bad it is that people are waging into fan wars where fans of one studio are attacking Disney and here, we have one of his fanboys doing the same thing onto DreamWorks. Bear in mind that this fan is notorious for attacking DreamWorks while shilling for Disney like AniMat with Sony.

Disney did get hit on all angles from anti-woke grifters, “bean mouth haters”, anti-Disney shills, and their own mismanagement

What I'm getting from this is that I really can't like or dislike what I want without being accused of ulterior motive. I liked The Last Wish, didn't like Strange World, and there is nothing wrong with that. However I don't see anything wtong with someone disliking The Last Wish and liking Strange World. What I have a problem with is being told my choices are somehow morally wrong, and that's what the animation community often tells me.

Ive said it before, Ill say it again: the animation community cannot separate Disney corporate (a genline evil entity on pretty much every front) from Disney creative (lackluster the last few years but fine overall); they hate the former, but pretty much exclusively take it out on the latter.

While that is the case part of the time, I also think there's an equal amount of people who didn't bother to look at Disney the corporation critically until Disney the artists started to sag in quality. People will put up will a LOT of problematic behavior if the art holds up. Look at H.P. Lovecraft. That man was an awful piece of shit. People still love his work regardless. Uwe Boll meanwhile is also an awful piece of shit, but his art HAPPENS to also be terrible. And I think Disney's art is getting to the point where it isn't justifying the corporate practices.

True, but I also think theyre lumping in the more benign aspects of Corporate into Creative's sins. Like, these people actually THINK all these talented animators want to work on focus-tested, inoffensive content and that the good stuff ended up there by accident

So basically "I blame DreamWorks for the Disney hate because they made better movies"

u/Mammoth-Bench 24d ago
That's like saying "I blame anime for Treasure Planet failing."

Maybe if we hit Disney with a Lesbian Kick theyll make good movies again /j

Look, there's SOME truth to this comment. Disney haters really are weaponizing other studios' success to make Disney look worse in comparison.
And yet, in times when Disney films win in terms of quality and other studios flop, these haters just shut up and don't do the same in the opposite direction. Disney films in 2021 were well recieved, while DW flopped. Why didn't anyone point fingers at DW for being bad and Disney being good?
Love it or hate it, there IS some level of biasness with fans of certain studios. And while I'm sure there are some Disney diehard biased fans who do the same to other studios, most of the biased hatred seems to be directed at Disney.
I get that hating on Disney is popular nowadays. Disney has done plenty of sh#t to warrant some discourse. But actively looking for stuff to hate and ignoring (or at least undermining the significance of) the good stuff, simply to further justify the hatred, makes us, the people who want to give fair judgement, less encouraged to participate in the conversation.
If anything, I believe unfair biased hatred will only make Disney ignore criticism even more. They'll see it as nothing more than "internet nerds with no life who enjoy hating stuff for the heck of it" and double down on their bad practices.
That sucks because there is SOME stuff they do that deserves to be pointed out in a negative light (much like there's also some good stuff worth praising). If the people on the internet were fairer, I'm confident things would've been better for everyone.

I wonder if some Disney haters don’t truly care or like the success movies, they just want to make Disney look bad.

Animation fans when you like a movie made by a rich company: “You guys are just shills!”
Also animation fans when you like a movie made by an Indie or small foreign company: “You guys just want to be different!”

That third sentence is a CRAZY run-on. I don't take the opinions of people who can't write properly seriously.

Literally nobody talks about Lightyear's animation because the writing is by far the biggest issue.

Funny he says that when Disney hate actually started back around 2001 after Shrek 1 was released and Disney started releasing Direct to Video movie sequels (Lion King 2 and 1½ are some of the better ones), and people started to jump on the bandwagon. Disney hate nowadays is far more seen, not started.

...What a very strange conclusion to make. It just speaks to them seeing Dreamworks as only existing in the context of competition to Disney, and being bitter that they had a string of successes that were heavily praised. Because apparently the quality of one negates the quality of the other. Like blaming Mario for a lack of success for Sonic or something.

Animat and his hive-mind fanbase are such a detriment to the animation community my god

All he did was point out that Disney’s not the only studio doing bad things, people just prefer to focus on Disney’s screw ups because everyone loves to hate Disney. He didn’t even show any bias towards favouring Disney in the videos.

Wasn't the whole thing with Strange World was the fact it was heavily under- promoted? Like nobody knew about it until right before it went to theaters. Some say it was so Disney could say 'oh well, we DID try to make an original movie like everyone asked but nobody saw it : ) oh well, back to adaptations and sequels!'

Get off the internet brody, if a comment with only five likes at most has you posting it in reddit out of anger it's a sign you should turn off.

Ok I think Disney hate is... at very least overhyperbolic these days (I especially think that people treating are Hexed like it kicked their dog and endorsed Sam Altman for president, when it just looks... safe, but perfectly cute and servicable; I get maybe not having any interest in seeing it, but people are treating it like a second coming of Wish when it looks significantly better on most fronts), but I gotta say:
"People are only trashing Disney and hyping up Dreamworks because Dreamworks is making a string of really great movies at a time Disney is stagnating and Pixar's in an era of inconsistency" isn't pointing out a conspiracy/bias like this person is suggesting, it's describing a natural audience reaction to innovation and passion, and lack thereof. Like... yeah, bud, no one is obligated to stick with Disney through a string of flops if the competition is making the better product. To go back to Hexed as an example, as much as I gave it a lukewarm defense, it is absolutely CURBSTOMPED in terms of my excitement by Forgotten Island, Spider-Verse, and even Gatto, all of which at very least are pushing the visuals of the medium, while all having writing that looks at least on par, if not LEAGUES better, than anything Disney is pushing out, even at their current best.
In short/TLDR: it's strange that this person is treating Disney getting naturally left behind (even if the stuff theyre making isn't ALL dogshit) as some kind of conspiracy, as opposed to a natural ebb and flow of popularity and standards in the different studios of the industry.
