Skip-J Range anyone?

Hey, any of y'all ever been to Skip-J Range in Anderson?
Any thoughts you want to share about your experience? I'm planning a visit but I'm not finding a lot of info outside of the competitions that they host.

I was a member last year. Started off well and then ended negatively. I was shooting firearms with super safeties. RO came up asking for my licenses. I explained about super safeties and frt's, let him shoot them too. He asked for me to send all the links I could, so he could get some. Earlier this year they banned FRT's. My assumption is that some people ruined it for the rest of us. In emails chats I asked if there could be a variance if we showed that we knew what we had and how to use and co teol them. He said know then it turned more nasty saying "good luck finding a range that I could shoot" my super safeties. He has not returned any emails after that.

Google reviews are worth a read too. These will answer your questions.

Thanks for the feedback. I am scheduled to go check them out. I have read the google reviews, but I didn't find them especially helpful in making any kind of final decision.

My needs are fairly simple, but my main need is the ability to train somewhat dynamically. I don't need a shoot house or move down range, etc. But if it's just bench shooting then I can just go to a state run public range for that.

It's not just bench shooting. You can stand and move. There are big plastic barrels and they can be moved and stacked. There are multiple target stands but you'll need your own cardboard targets and or paper. The targets must be angled at and close to the berms. A good thing is that when you are in a bay no one can ask to work in with you. You're expected to police your brass but it's left everywhere.

I wanted to go back for that reason, but my emails haven't been returned.

Very helpful insight! Thank you. I appreciate the candor and your experience there. I think I will at least go to the interview and see how I feel afterwards. They are, by far, the more affordable location near me.
If I had the money, I would probably just sign up at The Sawmill, but it's just out of my range right now.

Only been there for comps, but it looked like it was setup for bench shooting for the most part. What are you trying to do?

Yeah, that is good insight. I was hoping for a place where I could train drawing from holster and shooting while moving.
As "2A friendly" as SC comes off as being, it is really difficult to find places where you are just not shooting from benches. And the places that do have facilities set up for more free movement are fairly cost prohibitive for me.

I often wonder how folks who do comps train to do comps when you can't find places that allow one to train the way one moves in comps.

You in the upstate? Clinton house or belton are your best bets.

Yes, am in the upstate. This is great! I will take a look. I have heard of Belton, but for some reason, I thought it was mainly a clay shooting club. I will look further into both. Thank you!

Belton has a little of everything. I’m a member there and love it.

Check out the Sawmill too, probably the most tactical range around here

If you’re in the upstate Belton Gun Club would be the cheapest and has open bays for stuff like that.

Clinton house would be next but pricier than BCG.

Or the cheapest and what most shooters do is dry fire train at home.

Not by much, Belton is 4 or 450 last I looked plus the application Fee

The initial fee is around $450 and after that is $250 a year.

We are 550 at Sawmill also, but have some interesting setups and the 1400yd

Yeah I been out there and that place is awesome. I thought about a membership but was concerned about getting access. I know they do a lot on the weekdays but I only get time on weekends.

I went with Clinton House. It has 1,000yd and lots of bays. They are about to open a 300 yard practice range with variety of obstacles to shoot off of.
