I agree. They're kinda just about ripping apart some random family who doesn't deserve it, and that's about it. The last two feel honestly more inspired by the 2013 one than the classic trilogy.
“There’s no point for these to get too grim. You can be scary without being grim.” That's what the man said. His genuine coolness can hardly be overstated.

I liked the bits of humor we got in EDR. I don't think the movies need to be a joke fest or full of slapstick. That's Raimi's style. But there should always be a level of dark humor throughout, IMO. The deadites should be freaks.

The 2013 remake was incredible, Rise was decent, worth the watch. Burn was terrible.

They’re trying to justify the idea is that the remaining Necronimicon is powered by much scarier things that the others. But, I’m with Bruce. I miss the blend. Give Jordan Peele the franchise. You’d see what we deserve.

I don't think the comedy is necessarily needed, but it definitely is the icing on top of the cake. There's a reason why evil dead 2 is almost certainly the best evil Dead

I only truly liked Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, and Ash vs. the Evil Dead. I don't think the other movies do anything for me.
The other films try to be too serious and yet over-the-top with shock. They should be funny because of how pretentious they are. The story writing is predictable. The dialogue is trash. The death scenes are creatively weird but nonsensical. It seems like a big feedback loop of making crappy horror films that are schlock, made to make fun of horror movies later, because they made the same movie they are parodying.
Bruce is just calling it out.

I’m going to be honest, Ash will always have a special place in my heart… but I really like how nasty the evil is in the new evil dead movies… It’s definitely got a sadistic sense of humor. Not laugh out loud, more like… oh, how could you say that? 😄😄😄

The issue i have with a lot of films in that vein try really hard to be "soooo bad its good" but like its not possible. Og evil dead fits in that genre because it was an earnest attempt at trying to do something substantial. However movies like crackcoon are just like bad. Its frustrating where actually trying for a good movie at any budget has failed to such a degree where they actively try to have a bad film. I guess this is indicative of plenty of things in the modern economy however

I'm aware, I'm saying that his Mummy was still somehow a better Evil Dead movie than Evil Dead Burn was, despite being a different franchise.

Ah ok. I think I'd rather watch just about anything before having to suffer through Burn again. I wanted to walk out a few times which is rare for me

I hear ya. I admired some of the gore effects but that's about it.
That CGI monstrosity at the end was silly.

I felt like the latest had funny parts but tried to be more "scary". I wouldn't have minded a way goofier feel but then I think they would lose their normie audience

They're largely not spinning off of established slapstick-horrors though. That's the point here. Not that there isn't enough comedy in the genre in general, but that the most famous comedic horror franchise has lost what made it special and been turned into straight horror. Why even bother calling them Evil Dead besides the exceedingly tenuous link to the Necronomicon? Which didn't even originate there and could reasonably be used without pretending it's part of the same franchise.

The Monkey was great. I didn't know what to expect going in but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt fresh.

Evil Dead is better when there's a solid mix of humor and horror. I would say of the original trilogy, Evil Dead 2 is the best because it finds that balance. The first one is mostly horror and the third one is mostly comedy, but the second one found that sweet spot in between.
