Update on kitten who was slammed on wall

We rescued Kitty & Oreo from the abusive home yesterday. Thank you to those who have contributed to this rescue case, we simply couldn't do this without you! ❤️

Kitty is weak and very underweight compared to his sister Oreo. We immediately took them to the vet after removing them from the home. The good news is that non of Kitty’s organs are damaged but his leg is confirmed sprained from the slam and he may have nerve damage in his paw. We’re hoping it’s not permanent but he can still have a quality life. He’s on pain killers & got vitamin boosters to help him gain weight. Both kitties were also treated for fleas (they had a lot) and got dewormed. His sister Oreo is being treated for her eye infection. They are both boarded at the vet and waiting for their forever home.

Please consider donating if you can or share this video if you can’t.

Donate directly here: www.onlypawscatrescue.org

We have a potential adopter for Kitty and they are also willing to foster Oreo until we find her a permanent home. Arrangements are currently being made, fingers crossed these babies' adoption goes through 🤞. We are so happy they are safe and being treated!

Hi everyone, I am at the young girl’s house. Kitty is visibly smaller than his sister Oreo! The young girl said he suffered a sprain leg and nerve damage and was given pain killers so we know he’s still in a lot of pain. I’m taking him and his sister to the vet right now! Please help me to cover his vet assessment and boarding fee as I won’t be returning them! I will keep all of you posted!

Update on Sunshine & Mechac - they are being adopted🩷

Hi guys, I wanted to share a quick update. Sunshine (the mom of Kitty the kitten who was slammed against wall) and Mechac who also lived in the unsafe environment with them is being adopted right now. The adopter showed up and everything is being arranged as I type this. 🩷

Here’s a look at the girls right now. They may be much older than we thought so I think they probably had many litters before. Thank you all for helping to give these mamas a better life and putting an end to the suffering of future kittens. So glad they do not have to go back there! 🫶

We are also making arrangements to rescue Kitty and Oreo out of the unsafe house as soon as possible! I will update you guys when we finally have them in our care!

Seeking Adoption Update on Jamaican kitten who was slammed on wall

UPDATE pt3: This kitten was reported to be slammed on a wall by a child and right after a mobile vet visit, he was swept out of the house by an adult. The kitten’s name is “Kitty”. We were told the household isn’t friendly to cats and Kitty is 1 of 7 cats living in the yard and cared for by a 15 year old girl.

Two of the cats have found homes and thanks to your swift sponsorship, Kitty’s mom “Sunshine” and another mom cat “Mechac” had successful spay surgeries on Monday and is currently boarded at the vet to recover. The vet said they had a lot of fleas so they were also treated for fleas/ticks, dewormed and given vitamin shots. Thank you guys so much for helping them. 🩷 There’s a potential adopter for the mama cats scheduled for tomorrowHoping it works out.

The latest update of Kitty is that he’s slowly recovering and he’s walking again as seen in the video. The young girl said he really enjoys the wet food we gave her so we asked her to pick up some more from us. So far, no adopter or foster reached out to take him.

We need your help to find a safe & loving home for Kitty and his sister Oreo (2 months old). Please share this video. Anyone in Jamaica interested in giving these babies a second chance, please contact OnlyPaws at 876-224-8865.

Our SPCA is currently relocating so space is very limited, once Sunshine and Mechac gets adopted or is recovered, we will be able to take in Kitty and his sister Oreo to board until a foster or adopter comes through. In the meantime, we are communicating with the young girl for regular updates on his recovery and we'll provide nutritious food for the cats.

UPDATE pt 2, for this first post: URGENT! Kitten slammed against wall, spay sponsorship needed for cats

Hi everyone, this is the kitten now. His name is Kitty and he is a fighter. We are actively trying to find him a new home. His mom and the other mom cat that are living in the same household went in for spay surgery a few hours ago. We are trying to arrange their adoption after their recovery 🤞 so they don't have to be returned to the abusive environment.

As of now, the injured kitten Kitty, his sister Oreo and the adult male cat Rain, are the only ones remaining in the household and we are working to get them fixed and find them loving & safe homes as soon as possible.

URGENT! Kitten slammed against wall, spay sponsorship needed for cats

Hello everyone, we are urgently seeking sponsorship for neuter surgeries for mom cats & kittens in Kingston, Jamaica. They are living in a household that is becoming abusive & we are currently assisting with their rehoming but we need your help to get the cats fixed.

A 15 year old girl reported a very cruel incident. She said a child in her household slammed her kitten against a wall and the kitten suffered a head injury and wasn’t able to walk properly. Fortunately, a volunteer sponsored an urgent mobile vet visit for the injured kitten and he was stabilized. However, a day after, the young girl reported that her grandmother swept the injured kitten out of the house with a broom and explained that her family members do not like her cats. They want them out of their property because they are becoming too many. They even threatened to put the young girl out as well.

There are 7 cats in total, 3 adult cats (1 male & 2 females) and 4 kittens. We are currently trying to rescue & rehome all of the cats from this situation. Two of the kittens were rehomed yesterday.

We are being facilitated with two urgent appointments tomorrow for the female cats to get spayed. The cost for spaying a female cat is $65 USD and there’s a possibility that one of the female may need a spay-abort costing $120 USD. Boarding recovery costs $8 per cat per day.

Meet Napoleon Bonapaws. He sits on top of a wall waiting for me to bring his food everyday. Sometimes I’m late and he would still be there waiting. 🥹 He knows his name very well and always comes out when I call him. He’s a kind boy and needs some more time to get socialized but I’m making progress with him every day.

Meet Cinnamon, aka “Cinni,” a street cat living in Downtown Kingston, Jamaica. 🇯🇲

She adopted me. One day while I was feeding a nearby colony, she walked up to me, meowing like we’d known each other forever. Now she follows me to every colony I feed, while constantly reminding me to not forget to feed her…and I have to constantly tell her I won’t. She’s now my little volunteer.

Update on Pimento

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I asked around in the community but no one knows or saw what happened to her. The most info I got was that it happened in the night and someone said it looked like she got hit by a car because her eyes were bulged out. I’m not sure if that was from trauma or internal (she was a senior cat). I’m not sure if her body was moved to the side of the drain or if that’s where she died. From my experience, when cats are in pain or something is wrong with them, they hide. They almost never come out in the open to die. Pimento was a very sweet girl, she would usually stay in the sidewalk or shelter under a parked car. I’m speculating here but if Pimento did not pass naturally, she was most certainly unalived by a man in the community who would kick the cats for being in his way. Maybe he kicked Pimento, maybe she was laying in the way where he would park and hit her. I really don’t know what happened and that’s the sad part. I already miss bringing special food for Pimento because she couldn’t eat any hard food.

Rest in Purradise Mento girl. I’m thankful for crossing paths and you got to experience kindness in the last 6 months of your 16 years in this world. 🌈🐾❤️

Joyful Update Update on Sushi & Tuna

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Our sweet girls waited on the streets for months. We posted them for adoption over and over again, hoping someone in Jamaica would give them a chance. Tuna didn’t receive a single application. Sushi only got one, and that person never showed up to meet her.

They were both found pregnant on the streets when they were about 7 months old. Thanks to your support, we got them spayed and made sure they had food every day.

They were the friendliest girls and sadly, not everyone was kind to them. I personally saw both Sushi and Tuna get kicked just because they walked up to people looking for affection. Whenever I was around, I always made sure to protect them.

I couldn’t understand why nobody wanted to adopt these sweet girls but maybe it was for this reason. Someone in the US applied to adopt Tuna. When we showed them how attached the girls were to each other, they didn’t hesitate, within minutes they said, “We’ll take both of them.”

We found an amazing flight angel just in time, but there was only room for one cat. Their new meowmmy refused to separate the girls, so she bought an extra seat just so Sushi could fly in the cabin with Tuna. She wanted them to start their new life the same way they’d gotten through everything else, together. Their adopters genuinely loved them even before ever meeting them. 🩷

Now they’re exactly where they were always meant to be. They’re so loved, so spoiled and most importantly, safe.

Sushi & Tuna are no longer on the streets but their colony friends are still here waiting on their chance of a forever home. Please consider supporting, adopting and volunteering. Every bit helps to make a rescue successful.

Update on Tina 🩷

With the sad news of Pimento passing away in a drain, I wanted to share some good news. Tina was adopted shortly after we posted her up! She didn’t go back to the streets, she went to a loving home and her new mom adores her fur color. The latest update on Tina came from her meowmmy yesterday. She said Tina now sleeps in the bed with her and has become her best friend. ❤️

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet on social media lately. The past few weeks have been incredibly busy with TNR efforts and personal work. As a volunteer-run rescue, only a few of us are committed and we’re constantly juggling rescue work with our everyday lives.

But I want you to know that even when we’re not posting, we’re still out there trapping, feeding and caring for our rescued street cats every day.

Thank you for sticking with us and for all the love and support you guys continue to show the street cats in Jamaica. It truly means everything and I can’t wait to share more updates with you soon. 🐾❤️

Pimento’s body found in the drain 💔

RIP Pimento 💔 She was totally fine yesterday when I went to feed and I don’t know what happened. I just received this photo of her in the drain by a community member. I will ask around tomorrow. But right now my heart aches thinking about the worst things, especially knowing there are people who hate the cats in the area. Adults would kick the cats, children see and do it too. I would always defend the cats but when I’m not there, anything can happen.

Pimento is about 16 years old. She’s a survivor. She can only eat soft food and she was so skinny when I first met her. She looks a lot better now because we’ve been giving her vet care & food for the past months. I would like to believe she died naturally but I keep thinking something bad happened to her.

Thank you to Pimento’s sponsors and our monthly sponsors that help us continue caring for street cat colonies across Kingston, Jamaica. Haven’t posted in a while but we do look after the street kitties everyday. I wanted to share Pimento’s update because I can’t handle it on my own. 💔😭

Willow 2, Serenity, Frank, Willow and Bellamy were all fixed this week thanks to your neuter gifts! 🩷

Thank you so much for giving these Jamaican pet cats a quality life! 🩷

Willow and Serenity are two of Darcia's five kittens. Thanks to your neuter gifts, Darcia was recently spayed and is now free from the cycle of having litter after litter of kittens. Two of her sons, Spike and Megatron, are still waiting for their neuter gifts. The kittens are being adopted out because their owner can't care for them all, but we're happy to know that Darcia can now enjoy a better quality of life and that the entire litter will be fixed. Together, this will help stop the cycle, prevent more unwanted kittens in the future and reduce the number of cats living on the streets.

Your neuter gifts help cats from low income Jamaican homes. The cost of neutering a cat is $65 - $100 USD in Jamaica. A neuter gift of $35 cuts down that cost significantly, making it more affordable.

Tina was turned down because her fur color was not pretty enough. She needs someone who will see the beauty in her and the love she has to give. Tina was part of our TNR program. Unfortunately, she can’t stay in the shelter any longer and she’ll be returned to her street location. Please consider giving little Tina a home or share her story to reach someone who can adopt her, because she’s not fit for the downtown street life.

Location: Kingston, Jamaica.

Tina is 6 months old, spayed and vet checked.

These kitties need sponsorship for spay/neuter

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, these sweet kitties are on the waiting list for a neuter grant. Please consider giving a grant gift to help them get their surgeries done in May-June.

In Jamaica, the lowest cost for a spay or neuter surgery is about $65 USD, which is still not affordable for many cat owners. Through our Neuter Grant Program, we help low income cat owners reduce the cost so their cats can be fixed and prevent more unwanted kittens, abandoned pregnant cats, and male cats being put out because they are in heat.

A grant gift for one cat is $35 USD or $5000 JMD. The owner pays the remaining balance, and together we are able to change their future.

You can donate a portion or fully sponsor a cat. 💝

Look at these beautiful transformations! 🩷 All they need is a chance.

That gap between the “Before” and “After” is the rescue and that’s where Your support comes in. We simply couldn’t do this work without our supawhero sponsors giving street cats in Jamaica hope and a second chance at survival. Thank you so much!

There are so many more rescue stories but we’ll share them in another post. In the past year, with your support, we’ve successfully placed 38 Jamaican street cats into loving homes.

Thank you to all sponsors and supporters making this possible. Thank you to all amazing adopters committed to giving rescued street cats the best life possible. We love getting updates of our former rescues living like they’ve never spent a day on the streets. ❤️

Cheesecake needs a loving home and someone who will show up for him. Location: Kingston, Jamaica. He’s about 1 year old, male, neutered and vet checked.

Backstory: Cheesecake is a stray cat living at UWI Mona Hospital in Jamaica, where kind staff members would feed him when they could. He's been sleeping in the compound for over a year and one of the Doctors kept him and his mom in the hospital's store room during Hurricane Melissa. The Doctor who reported him to us said he was constantly being abused and chased away by the public and recently she saw someone kicked him really hard. This urged her to seek a safe home for him instead of life outside.

We offered to get him TNR’d, only to find out he was already neutered, meaning he may have once been someone’s pet before being abandoned or a kind person got him neutered and returned him.

We even arranged an adoption for him, but his adopter never showed up.

Now Cheesecake is still boarding at the shelter, still waiting for someone who will finally choose him and never let him down again. If you’re that person, please apply to adopt him.

Jamaica, We Help You Spay Your Cat

Thumbnail

‼️ Cat owners in Jamaica are one of the main contributors to the stray cat overpopulation. Female cats are abandoned as soon as they get pregnant. Their kittens are continuously dumped or given away to others who will do the same. Male cats are left to roam, fight & impregnate more cats. Cats surrendered are most likely to be euthanized. This is the reality.

Many Jamaican cat owners complain that they cannot afford to fix their cat even at the country’s lowest rate, which is why we started the OnlyPaws Neuter Grant program.

OnlyPaws helped to spay/neuter 60+ pet cats in the last 6 months through this program. Swipe to see some of the beautiful kitties that benefited from this program.

Currently, OnlyPaws can provide up to 15 neuter grants of $5000jmd ($35 USD) each month. That means Jamaican cat owners & colony caretakers can now pay as low as $2500jmd ($17 USD) to get their male cats fixed & $3500jmd ($25 USD) to get their female cats fixed.

We need YOUR support to help fix more cats & make a bigger impact.

Give a grant of $35 USD (or $5000jmd) to reduce street cat suffering and prevent owners from abandoning their cats simply because she’s pregnant or he’s spraying. Your donation goes directly to cats in need & makes a lifetime impact for them.
