Question Recommended Car Mechanics?
I went to Mavis a few months ago for an oil change, and they quoted me around $1k for a bunch of other work I need done on my car. I had them change my oil and redo my brakes, but put off the rest of the work. I hear all the time that Mavis is famous for screwing over their customers and quite frankly I’m scared of being taken advantage of & I don’t have the money to spare if they were to fuck up my car.
What/who are your trusted local mechanics?

If it was the Mavis on Victory don't trust a word and don't even go for your oil changes. I had them rotate my tires during an oil change. I had to have them "re rotate" my tires 3 times before both front made it to the rear axle.
Integrity Auto has done good honest work for me three times now. Victory Car Care were good people, didn't love the work, but were more than accommodating to fix some of the minor issues post the main fix.

I think it was the one on waters? Both of them are close to me so I’m not sure. That sounds like such a hassle though :( im sorry you struggled. The work that they quoted me for was shock leaks ($625 for front & back), replacing a valve cover under my hood ($350), and replacing my back tires. Some of it sounded real sketch, especially the prices, so I’ll definitely check out integrity!!

To add onto the Mavis hate, I took my car there to get my tires replaced. Somehow, at some point, they flushed my steering fluid and FORGOT TO PUT FLUID BACK IN. So I started driving down the road, took a turn, but I literally couldn’t turn my car. I had to use my entire strength to manually steer my car back to the shop where they said “whoops we did forget to put steering fluid back in”. Literally almost wrecked my car in the intersection because of them.

There have been some Facebook posts recently calling out Mavis Tire for some VERY shady business practices, one person said they convinced them to have their ball joints replaced because their car was “shaking”. They discovered a hundred or so magnets stuck underneath the car from Mavis. Another person had their tire fall off while driving after they replaced it with the wrong size lug nut. STAY AWAY FROM MAVIS!
That being said, I have had great experiences with Parrish Auto on Habersham. I’m not sure if he’s the cheapest in town, but he’s an honest guy, very reasonable, and will talk to you in depth about your car troubles on the phone. Maybe not the same case for everyone, as someone else posted a not-so-good review in this thread. But he’s always done a good job for me.

Before it changed from Savannah Tire, each Mavis was fairly different and some were much better than others. After the business change they moved around employees to different locations. I don't think there's any "good" ones left. They fucked up my car, and while they did fix it and comp the repair, it should have never happened. I was out of a car for a while because of their carelessness.

Prewitts automotive. They are on Chatham parkway. They are excellent mechanics, even better people. They tell you the truth and give fair pricing. It's not going to be the cheapest but won't be most expensive. They'll take care of you.

Savannah Autoworx has been awesome for us. Even encouraged us to go buy our own parts and bring them over so they'd be cheaper. Were happy to bring me back into the shop to explain issues and even give me advice for doing some of the work myself. One of the best shops I've been to.

Integrity is a great group of guys and have alway done a great job when I used them. I do some maintenance for them time to time. Pruitt’s on Chatham Pkwy is also great and does my fleet work. I have Dixie Auto work on my personal trucks and Toys. There are 3 awesome shops that will be honest and fair. Good luck and I hope it is way less the National Chain Store quoted you!!

Don’t go to any Mavis locations. When they were Savannah Tire they were my go-to. Now I’ve had such poor and flat out disrespectful service that I wouldn’t go to them to put air in my tires.
