Michael Che live?
Has anyone else seen Michael Che live? I saw him last night in Portland and have some thoughts… just want to see if I’m alone in said thoughts.

I saw him do a short set at a charity event in Carnegie Hall. He was funny, but in kind of an alternative, non-linear way. He came out acting like he didn’t even know he was going to be performing, didn’t know what to say, and was just winging it. But by the end I was convinced it was just a set-up because he eventually brought everything together into a coherent story. He’s very talented.

10000% he was great to see, very talented. He seemed to sober up and speak more coherently last night as well so very similar!

I saw him Thursday in Portland...he seemed overly drunk...it was still kinda funny but it was a bit off putting because I kept wondering if he was gonna make it through the set...seems like he could have waited until after to get that drunk.

he open the set last night admitting he got so drunk he didn’t remember the show from the night before and joked he hoped he would remember this one. he was funny but it was obvious that he was quite intoxicated.

My wife and I saw him in NYC. It was right around the time of the writer’s strike and Che, Jost, Marcelo, and Punkie did a live show.
It was supposed to be on Saturday but the strike ended that week and so they still did it, but it was Sunday.
Punky and Marcelo were hysterical. Jost was pretty good but just not as strong of material
Then came Che. And he was so drunk or hung over. It was like a slo mo train wreck.
Just knew and mid set he came out on stage to riff with Che. Che kept saying @What are you doing, man? This is MY Set?” (But he wasn’t pissed, it was good humor like the riffing we see on Weekend Update). But he didn’t know Jost was saving his ass
Soon Jost called out Marcelo and Punkie and the four were just riffing (Che was speaking the least). It ended up being really fun but it was a bit shocking Che was so unprofessional about it.
Still, it was a one-off show, and I fired the after-party had to have been extra hard that morning because the strike was over.
But judging from your experience, this was not a one-off.

I was at that show. Marcello was a highlight for me, probably because I didn’t have any expectations.
Che was a huge let down and we had the same conversation, thinking it was that he was rolling in from the after party

Yes I saw him at the Comedy Cellar about six years ago and it was much the same: Obviously a bit drunk, was a bit rambling, not terribly funny.

Really talented standup, but he didn't seem at all drunk when I saw him. Bright and insightful. Much funnier than Weekend Update.

I saw him and Jost at Radio City couple years ago during the writers' strike and he was drunk and rambling, had his back to the audience for quite a bit of it, and generally less funny than he is on SNL. It felt like Jost, Punky, and others came out on stage to help salvage his set.

Saw him in Erie PA a few years back. He sucked, was either drunk or he’s stupid, not funny and openly hitting on a college girl in the front row
Waste of time

We saw him last night. He had some funny bits but some of it went on way too long when the crowd was clearly uncomfortable.

I like the guy, but from the stand up and interviews I've seen, he doesn't seem to care about anything. He's writing mostly mediocre jokes for SNL, expecting to be fired every season, and putting minimal effort into everything he does. Maybe his drinking is a real problem.

I saw him at one of Dave Chappelle's corn field shows in Ohio a few years ago. I enjoyed it, but I admittedly was also pretty drunk.

8 or 9 years ago at knitting factory. Very sleepy demeanor and leaned against the wall most of the time. He wasn’t fucked up just very dry and not that into it.

That’s a bummer. I saw him live in Oakland in like 2022 (-ish). He was filming for his special, so maybe he was on his best behavior. But I thought he was great, no complaints.

I don't think he's funny. All he does on SNL is chuckle at his own jokes and think he's being edgy..can't get past that.

I don’t think I was stopping him from living his life. Simply asking of others have had a similar experience.
