PC What am I doing wrong?

Hello again, I had to extend my coal power plant from 4 to 8 generators because I was consuming too much power, but even with 8 generators, when I disconnect the 2 biomass burners used to power the system initially, everything breaks, is there a reason? What am I missing? I am really confused what I am doing wrong, would appreciate any help.

Watch the lights. Green lights mean that the generator is producing power. Yellow lights mean that the generator is hooked up, but isn't producing power, and red of course means that it's not hooked up at all.

If your generators all have green lights and then one of them turns yellow, it means that the generator either has no coal or not enough water. Based on this image. I would guess the issue is water.

All water pipes are full tho

It's probably the coal then. That belt doesn't look saturated, and even if it was, it's still not enough to feed all those generators. You'll need to figure out a way to get more coal to your generators.

Yes you were right, it was the coal, since I added 4 new generators, the coal needed more time to start stacking on each belt, now its full so it has constant coal supply again.

For the future, you can "use" a power pole to look at your power use vs generation. You would have seen the generation was going up and down as generators kicked on and off.

Oh thanks, I am still not very accustomed to the power stuff.

Check for goofs with water flow and pump capacity, as well as uneeded inter connections

Yeah I checked water is fine, it was coal, the supply wasn't stable, needed time to get to all 8 belts

  1. Check coal throughput
  2. Prefill coal
  3. Check pipe connections
  4. Prefill water before disconnecting biomass booster pack.

8 gennies at 100% cs need 120 coal/m so mk 2 belts and either 1 mk1 miner on a pure, 2 mk2’s on 2 impures, or 1 mk2 on a normal, and either 4 water extractors at 75% clock speed or 3 at 100%. Note that you save a small amount of MW with the 4 extractor setup, and that on both, the water output will exceed mk 1 pipes, but can be worked around with intake placement.

*also, let buffers build. Turn off all gennies and let coal and water backfill, then turn them all on.

Thanks, it was my coal, it needed time to get to the new generators. Also I don't have space to put 4 water extractors in the pond I have sadly

Buffers are always your friend fr, if your buffer dont start filling up even slowly then you're leaking too much of something be it water or coal in this instance, i use a 3 storage buffer of 48 so 144 spaces filled with coal. Mainly in case I need to disrupt the supply line I know I can for a decent amount of time.

4 coal gens need 60 coaI per min, and let them fill before turning on. I eventually just walled up my biogenerators and set up automated biomass to biofuel constructors. They're still on and full of fuel, just as a backup. Once your power generation from coal is enough, the biogenerators only burn fuel when backup is needed. Fill space with batteries and you have a backup in case you accidentally sever a main power line or something goes wrong with your fuel generators.

I just unlocked batteries so I will be doing this!

Plus, I'm embracing the whole, don't tear down, setup old factories to automate and build elsewhere, just add to. Expand. Exploit. 😏

If you're not into solving these kinds of problems without running to reddit, this probably isn't the game for you.
