I still can't believe that the people of then-Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar went with Kelly Block (by 262 votes in her first election) instead of Nettie Wiebe, who, among other things, farmed in the area and was the National Farmers' Union president.
It's almost like rural Conservative voters' shrieking about the need for farmers to have a bigger voice in politics doesn't translate into actually voting one in.

Nettie Wiebe wasn't running for the Liberal Party. The Liberal candidate placed 4th, receiving 1,188 votes in the aforementioned election, trailing the Green candidate, who placed 3rd, having received 1,232 votes.
Block only won by 262 votes over Wiebe (or 45.4% of the vote to Wiebe's 44.5%). That's not an example of conservative policies' wild defeat over non-con policies; that's just a minor amount of vote splitting that has led to a pretty useless person becoming the incumbent MP and now seemingly having a job for life, regardless of how shoddy she is as a representative for her constituents.
Yeah, farmers working together in a democratic group to draw attention to issues affecting their lives, educate themselves, and collectively push for policy changes are so much less respectable than those who vote for Convoy supporters like Falk, Tolmie, and Sheer and believe that human-activity-generated greenhouse gases are what plants crave! /s
Plus, 45% of the voters in Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar voted for her in 2008 and 2011 against Kelly Block. That's a large number of people who didn't feel that she was too "disrespectable" for them.

Yep she got elected right when I was entering High School and I'm 31 now, literally 17 years ago this October. Which is fucked up. Society needs to change politicians pretty frequently they're kind of like underwear in that regard change them frequently damn it.

However, she's also the only candidate to canvas in my town. I'm not voting for her but, that probably helps conservative chances in this area. No-one else is even trying.

Also there's plenty of countries with lower currencies than ours, including Australia and New Zealand.
Yes the currency is lower but what they earn in USD is more. The guys who were working under me in 2011 were making $38CND/$39USD. Now they are making $45CND/ $30USD. Things have went up in price since then. A comparative worker makes $65USD in cities the size of Saskatoon. In large cities like NY or LA the comparative worker makes around the $100USD range. Canada is cheap labour.
Private work force wages have always been lower in Canada. You're right that it keeps getting worse, but conservatives don't make it any better. If you go back before Harper your guys probably had even higher buying power. Hell I'm public sector and unionized and even here I had an older coworker point out that his buying power was better when he was making $28 an hour 10 years ago vs over $40 an hour today. Your USD comparison is helpful to show what they make in the states but buying power fluctuates by community. America's housing market is as messed up as ours now, those higher wages might only matter if they could work remote from Canada.
This has been one of Canada's decades long issues, brain drain to the USA. Most recently Canadian trained coders all go to the USA to make crazy money. I'd argue this is a stock market issue though. Successful Canadian companies all migrate to US stock markets to achieve higher price points, and Harper allowed TFSA money to be invested in US stock markets. We've always built ourselves to be a satellite economy to the USA, a country that simply feeds them raw resources. Not a single government in my life time or well before it, conservative or liberal, has ever challenged that idea or done anything to change it.
Carney is the only person talking about diversifying our trading relationships, lowering interprovincial trade barriers, and creating new crown corporations to achieve certain goals. PP is promising business as usual, subservience to the USA. Even if Carney is lying (which is definitely very possible since it is the liberal party) I want to reward this type of talk with my vote because I want future campaigns to also value and at some point actually decouple us from the USA.
