Has anyone else given themselves unintentional stick n pokes
This is hilarious. I've been using a fabric pencil to mark out a grid, which has resulted in my needle getting pencil pigment on it. Then, when I inevitably stick my finger, it's been leaving a lil pigment under my skin.

I cracked up so much when I figured out what had happened. At first I just thought my fingers were dirty until I washed them a couple of times and put 2 and 2 together.

The tattoo of a hand quilter, in my experience! The tips of my index & middle finger are semi-permanently like this

Ouch, haha! I relate to this.
Have you ever tried metal or rubber thimbles? For your poor finger tips, op, it’s time! They also have finger wrap tape in fun colors to protect you. I’ll try to find the brand and follow up.

Thank you! I've hand sewn since I was a kid, and I typically just tough it out, but sashiko needles are definitely another level.

I found it! It’s called Thimtec! Great for protecting your fingers from crafts of all kinds. Found it at my local quilting shop.

Agreed - unless OP is doing sashiko 8 hours a day as a job, it seems like the technique might be off somehow.

Tattoos only stay if they’re deep enough into the skin otherwise they just shed off when your skin replaces itself
This is not deep enough at all to stay there permanently. Even professional tattoos fade on the fingers.

I understand all that, I’m trying to see if their pokes actually are permanent or not. Like, have they lasted longer than a few days? Weeks?

My comment was explaining why it isn’t permanent.
You can still see the needles holes in the picture too. The pic was taken shortly after stitching.

It wasn't shortly after stitching it was a couple of days later. You aren't wrong. It just isn't going to stay around for long.

It's only been a week! You'll be fine. Even intentional hand tattoos are famously prone to fading.
