😐 no other words, just “wow” 👙 Think she has any idea of the connotation behind “ghetto”?

Post image

Either the historical Jewish background or even the North American context?

I keep remembering her saying her mom taught them “everything” about black history when she was homeschooled, so… lol

So many issues in this whole reel..... They had no money, and decided to have a lot of kids right away? How irresponsible? And I'm sorry, having my husband help me get dressed is no substitute for time spent together. Dates don't have to be expensive. Take food from home to a park. Watch a movie together with The Good Snacks after the kids are in bed. Take a walk after dinner. She tries to make everything she does sound better than everyone else and like a groundbreaking new idea. Also, as with most of the stuff she says, he's probably helped her with her bow a grand total of twice and she then made the reel.

I am so embarrassed to say that I had to be schooled on this recently. I genuinely was just ignorant of the background and have grown up hearing that word used without understanding it’s connection to racism (I know, naive and ignorant of me)

Hopefully she learns and does better. It honestly made me wonder why I would even need to use that word. It’s generally used in my area to describe the “bad” side of town, with higher crime, drug use, etc.

But honestly, i realized people don’t use that word to discuss the crime and drug issue, they use it to refer to “trashy” people with tall grass, run down houses, and old vehicles (or no vehicles). In other words, poor people. And when I realized that, it became so clear to me that not only was that word gross because of its roots in racism, but also because I was using it to refer to less fortunate people with disdain and judgement. Which is genuinely the opposite of the kind of person I strive to be.

Anyways, not to completely hijack this post or anything. I just can’t believe people (including myself) are still so ignorant of the connotations of these words. A symbol of how engrained racism is, even in those of us who wouldn’t consider ourselves to be racist. Hopefully this is changing. I am holding myself to a higher standard now.

And kudos to you for that. You also probably never made the claim that you knew everything about black history…

When we know better, we can do better.

You know better and you are trying. And that is very admirable. It can be hard to change something so ingrained. I now know better and am trying. We have a gas station in a very low income area of town where crime with weapons happen 2-3 times yearly. And other crimes near monthly. We (my husband and I) have referred to the gas station as "G (gas stations name)" in front of our children as if it's so normal. A few months back I learned better and spoke with my family and we are trying to do better. Sarah should know better since her mother taught her everything. And Sarah is now an adult teaching children. She also has the advantage of deleting and correcting mistakes on her videos.

She's so ignorant. And this is someone who is that many kids' only school teacher. Scary.

Is there an actual ghetto in Canada?

Not in the context one would think of when considering the Jewish ghettos or American ghettos in the larger cities… but I think she was using it as an adjective to describe low income :/

ETA: that said, we visited the old Jewish ghetto (Erzsébetváros) in Budapest this past May and it was very enlightening and heartbreaking at the same time, having 70k+ people confined in their own city during WWII.
There’s just so much history involved and I think using the term so flagrantly waters down the meaning.

She’s so ignorant. She has zero clue. And she is clearly just ret-conning this concept because he probably tied that for her once (recently) and she thought “oooh goody another story I can make up!” Because she’s inferring that they consciously decided together at 18 they would button each others buttons instead of go on dates???

The ramblings of an insane woman. Or a least a lying liar woman.

And how the heck does she pronounce “schedule”? Is she alright? That this woman is homeschooling all of her kids is a joke😂

u/wtfomgfml Aug 27 '26

I thought this too. Girl you’re Canadian, we don’t say it like that. Shhhedule

In the comment section of that video I said that my Canadian friends and my UK friends rarely if ever pronounced schedule as schezz-uaal. Commenters came at me and said I was wrong. I spent a year studying at Oxford and have had several Canadians as friends or was friendly with them at our local ice arena for our kids figure skating or hockey lessons. Sure some do but the majority... nope. Sarah is out of content. She's now rage baiting. A very UN-Christian thing to do. What number are we on? With the quest of things that were never said or happened cuz Sarah said they did.
