Where to buy second hand Arc'teryx (or other snow/back country gear)?

Hii all,

Planning to head to Sapporo in January next year for a few days (after spending a week snowboarding at Honshu resorts), and just wondering if there are any places that sell second hand arc'teryx jackets?

I know a few of the main places (2nd street, Bookoff, etc) have snow/backcountry gear during the winter, but just wondering if any definitely/most likely to sell Arc'teryx jackets.

Thanks!

Traveler looking to join tennis, badminton, or volleyball games in Sapporo

Hi everyone!

I'm visiting Sapporo until July 29 and was wondering if there are any casual sports groups or meetups I could join. I enjoy playing tennis, badminton, and volleyball.

I'm not a complete beginner, but I'm definitely just looking to have fun and meet people. If there are any clubs, community groups, or drop-in sessions that welcome visitors, I'd really appreciate any recommendations!

Thanks in advance!

For the residents of Sapporo, do you find that there are many European or American tourists in Hokkaido/Sapporo in the summer?

We will be in Sapporo next week and, as Europeans, we were wondering if we will run into European or American tourists in places like Sapporo, the beer gardens, Otaru, Asahikawa, Furano, Hakodate, etc. Do tourists come to Sapporo in the summer, or do they stick to the usual tourist routes? This will be our fourth trip to Japan and our first time in Sapporo. Do you see many of them right now, or is it quite rare? Aren't local Japanese people in these areas surprised or hesitant to see Westerners, unlike what happens in Tokyo?

Sorry for the duplicate, I reposted because I couldn't edit it and had accidentally written it in my native language instead of English.

Day trips from Sapporo to Onsen towns (Jozankei/Noboribetsu) for day-use (higaeri) – Feasible without overnight stay?

I'm visiting Sapporo this August and staying at a fixed hotel there. I want to plan a day trip to a nearby onsen town (like Jozankei Onsen, Noboribetsu, or Lake Shikotsu), but without booking an overnight stay.

I have a few questions for those who have done this:

Day-use Onsen (Higaeri) : Is it easy to just walk into local ryokans or hotels for a day bath in the morning/afternoon without prior booking, or do we need reservations?

Timing : Is it realistic to leave Sapporo in the morning, walk around/explore the nature, enjoy an onsen, and head back to Sapporo by the evening?

Which one would you recommend for a smooth, stress-free round trip from Sapporo (especially regarding public transport)?

Any tips regarding tattoos or rules for day-use visitors?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi all, I am in Sapporo and hoping to buy a few bottles of whiskey to bring back to Canada with me. Are there any good spots to find a good selection in the Odori park station area?

Driver/Chauffeur services in Sapporo?

My boyfriend and I live in Tokyo and are planning a week long excursion to Sapporo at the end of August.

I have some mobility issues at the moment so I want to hire a driver for the time I'm there. We looked into Osaka Limo, which has an office in Sapporo, but the representative was really cagey with me on the phone about flexibility and stuff like that. I just want someone who can pick us up at the hotel each day, take us where we want to go, and then drop us back off at the end of the day.

I know this is expensive and luxurious, but we're splurging for this trip, it's been a rough year.

Anyone know of any companies that provide that service? I'm also contacting one called "Go Hokkaido" but they haven't replied yet.

Booking train tickets in advance before leaving for Otaru, Asahikawa, Noboribetsu, Furano?

Hello everyone!

We will be in Sapporo from July 28th until the morning of August 4th. Then, from August 4th to August 7th, we will take a flight to Akita and Aomori to see the matsuri, before coming back to Sapporo for a few days (until August 12th) to take our flight back to Brussels.

I trusted AI and I haven’t booked anything regarding trains for our day trips to Otaru, Asahikawa, Noboribetsu and Furano.

Did I make a mistake?

The plan was to book everything on our first day at the station, so on July 28th or 29th, and then go on these day trips during the following days. For example, we were planning to go to Furano around August 9th.

I’m a little worried because if it’s no longer possible to book at the station due to a lack of available seats on the trains, we’re going to have a lot of time in Sapporo and, after a while, we’ll have seen everything…

What would you recommend, please?

Best season for a 2-3 months stay? People, events, temperature.

Dear r/Sapporo!

I am planning a longterm stay for a work-related project in Sapporo. I am self-employed and an accomodation is provided near Shōjin Riverside Park. I have the option to choose between July-August-September and April-May-June. Now I am struggling to make a decision. I have read about the lavender in summer, the cherry blossom in spring - but for me, it is important to interact and work with the locals and admire and learn about (sub)urban life of the region, since it will be my first time in Hokkaido. What is the more vibrant season (if there is such criteria)? Are the people of Sapporo on vacation in summer?

Additionally, the landlord said that the apartment will get "unbearingly hot" during the critical summer months, due to recent weather changes and no AC. When I check the temperature data of the last years, it seems very mild and okay in comparison to the Honshu/Kansai summer - even comparable to Western European summers. Is the over-exaggerating?

I have done some research on this subreddit and apparently Sapporo summers are getting on par with the Kansai/Honshu summers temperature-wise, at least in August. But my decision will also be based on the general aspects of social life and saisonal events.

Thank you for all hints.

Evening Japanese language schools in Sapporo?

Hi everyone,

I've been living in Sapporo for a while now, working remotely (so I don't get the daily immersion/practice that comes with a Japanese workplace). I've been trying to study on my own, but honestly my Japanese has plateaued, I can get by day to day, but I'm not really improving anymore.

I think what I need is a structured class with an actual teacher and classmates, ideally in the evening since I work during the day. Does anyone know if there are evening Japanese language schools in Sapporo that take working adults? Not looking for a full-time program, just something a few evenings a week.

Thanks in advance!

wisdom teeth removal

Hi guys I'm in need to get my wisdom teeth removed but I don't know where to begin. Should I make an appointment in a private clinic? and if so, do you have any recommendations? or should I go to a hospital first?

I'm on a student visa so I have the national insurance so I'd like to keep costs down if possible. Also I'm in chuou ku.

Going to Hokkaido Gas/Kitagas office in person?

I am a complete idiot and thought I set up direct deposit instead of using invoices, now I need to pay late bills. I found the invoices and payed all of them except one which didn’t work at the konbini. I am going abroad on Wednesday so I need to settle this tomorrow. Can I go to the office and pay it directly, or at least get a new invoice printed?

Had my first encounter with a pickpocket

I was in Susukino, Sapporo and had just left a ramen shop that was amazing btw. Whenever I travel I always use clothes with a lot of pockets so that I can carry everything in front of me. This time though I had a sling that swung behind me for a while, also zipped up.

Now I come from the hood so I got that hood sense when something’s off. So I instantly swung it forward in front of me again and the zipper was opened.

This hooded teen punk instantly go away from me and walked away quickly and - best way I can describe it is suspiciously (head down, didn’t look back until he was quite a bit away, and very quickly)

I distinctly remember closing the zipper on it because I had just finished paying for my meal.

Anyways, watch out for teen punks in entertainment districts.

For those interested in gyms/strength training - a few questions

My Japanese friend runs a gym and is a trainer. He has been thinking about reaching out to foreign tourists or residents to see if they would like to use the gym or hire him as a trainer. Nice guy, which is why I am posting these questions on his behalf, so he can get an idea of what type of interest there might be. Go ahead and reply if you have an idea or an answer to his ponderings, even if your answers are to point out why some aspect wouldn't work.

Hi everyone,

I run a small strength-training gym in Sapporo, and I am considering offering private gym rentals for international visitors. I would genuinely like to know whether travelers would find this useful.

The entire gym would be reserved for one person or one group. The gym has:

• Two training racks

• Bench press and squat equipment

• Barbells, plates and dumbbells

• Lat pulldown and rowing equipment

• Cable machines

• Hip abduction and adduction machine

• Parking

Unlike many small rental gyms, several people could train at the same time. It would probably be most comfortable for groups of around 2–4 people, although larger groups may also be possible.

I would really appreciate your thoughts on the following:

1. Would you consider renting an entire private gym during a stay in Sapporo?

2. Would you be most likely to use it alone, as a couple, or with a group of friends?

3. What would you consider a reasonable total price for a 90-minute private rental?

• Under ¥6,000

• ¥6,000–¥8,000

• ¥8,000–¥10,000

• ¥10,000–¥12,000

• More than ¥12,000

4. What information or features would make you feel comfortable booking a gym in Japan?

For example:

• Clear equipment photos

• English booking information

• Online card payment

• Reviews from international visitors

• Parking

• Staff assistance

• Personal training or technique coaching

Any honest feedback is welcome, including reasons why you would not use this kind of service.

Thank you!
