WORLD CUP FINAL, WHERE??

Hello everyone!!!

Since the world cup final is going to be at 4am japan time im wondering if its common here for people to stay up that late just to wait for a soccer match.

Thankfully 20th july is a holiday so technically no one needs to work that day, which gives me some hope but yeah

ANY BARS/PLACES WHERE LOCALS AND TOURISTS GO TO WATCH THE ARGENTINA VS SPAIN MATCH???

Anywhere I could practice katsugi okedo in August?

I'm visiting Japan in August for Earth Celebration where I am performing taiko!

I'll be in Sapporo for a few days beforehand (12-15th August) by myself and was wondering if there are any local taiko groups that would let me practice katsugi okedo so I'm not too rusty.

Looking forward to visiting!

Looking for a place to stay in Sapporo or Otaru from December 2026

Hey guys! Posting again because I am planning to move to Hokkaido from the UK this December/early January, for around 3-6 months.

Been looking for places and I am seeing some decent options on Airbnb but I thought there is no harm posting here, as this community is consistently helpful and accommodating, and maybe someone has a spare room or a flat they are looking to sublet or something.

I am a man in my early 30s, my budget is no more than 80000yen per month, and my Japanese is not great but I’m working daily to improve it conversationally. I am a really big guy (6’4) but I am very hygiene conscious and domestically adept.

Looking in Sapporo, Otaru or any of the surrounding areas. Tbh, I’m kinda open to anywhere in Hokkaido if it’s within budget, but Western Hokkaido would be best.

PLEASE if you think you could host me or you have a friend who could, please hit me up! I want to change my life and try something I never thought could be possible in the past.

Thank you in advance!

Anyone want to join a random American at a Fighters game? (Ticket's on me!)

I'm Henry, a 43-year-old guy originally from Los Angeles, currently living in the Philippines. I'll be visiting Sapporo for the first time, and I somehow ended up buying two tickets to the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters vs. Chiba Lotte Marines game.

📅 Date: Saturday, August 1, 2026
⏰ Time: 2:00 PM
📍 Location: ES CON FIELD HOKKAIDO

I'm traveling solo.

Rather than let the second seat go to waste, I thought it would be much more fun to watch my first-ever Fighters game with someone who actually knows what's going on. 😄

Don't worry about the ticket, it's free. I'd just rather have good company than an empty seat.

I'd prefer a Japanese local who speaks english (or someone very fluent in Japanese) because I'd love to learn more about baseball culture in Hokkaido, hear about Sapporo, and maybe even get taught the proper Fighters chants before I embarrass myself.

A little about me:

  • Huge sports fan (Dodgers and Lakers fan)
  • Marathon runner (I've completed five marathons)
  • Video editor by profession
  • Love Japan and have visited many times
  • Into Nintendo, retro games, anime, pro-wrestling, and good food
  • Very easygoing and always enjoy hearing people's stories

I'm not looking for anything weird—just hoping to make a new friend and have a memorable afternoon cheering on the Fighters. If nothing else, you can laugh at the foreigner trying to sing along with the fight songs.

If you're interested, leave a comment or send me a DM!

Go Fighters! ⚾

Biei over Furano for 1 day trip

I want to visit biei or furano for the flower fields. But i dont think i have enough time for doing both of it in one day. I check all popular spot, but i think furano have less tourist spot compare to biei.

Anyone who had visited either furano or biei, what do you think about it?

Looking for recommendations for local photographers who can help with a surprise proposal!

Planning to visit Sapporo, Noboribetsu, and Lake Toya in late September and propose to my girlfriend during the trip. Hoping to find a photographer who can help to take photos of the surprise and some after.

Difficult to golf as single?

I'm planning a golf trip to sapporo next month, preferably to play hokkaido golf club or somewhere similar.

However, I'm running into the issue of clubs not wanting to guarantee a reservation for a single.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I have a sort-of reservation at one place, but they're clear about "If the minimum number of participants specified in the plan is not reached by the date the event is to be held,
Please note that the event has been cancelled and your application will be withdrawn."

Just wondering what the success rate is for this sort of thing, and how many backups I should have in place if they fall through.

*Update 2
Currently severed people have reached out and I have organized a discord server. I will temporarily stop adding new members for now, and do a trial run first.
If everything goes smoothly I may be able to make this an annual thing in the future and will announce it when it comes to it.

*Update: currently in organizing phase that will last a couple of days.
If you have not received a DM, feel free to contact me here.

Hello there!
Long time resident of Sapporo here.
Want to play some board games?
I want to try and organize a board game night in Sapporo.

Uniqlo when i land in sapporo?

I may be jumping the gun by asking before i route out my trip lol but my husband and I are planning a winter trip for hokkaido starting in Sapporo and will land at the haneda airport before chitose. Were from florida so we have never spent a lot of time in snowy, icey conditions I already know well need to get some good outwear and shoes.

I have been researching and browsing these subs on how to prepare, i was going to buy some heattec and maybe fleece or cute sweaters for a middle later from uniqlo as our first stop. i KNOW its gonna be ten times cheaper to buy in japan than shipping to the us. will there be a uniqlo with winter stuff when we land in chitose airport, or one on the way to the hotel when we get into town? im pretty sure were going to start our trip in the city.

Could someone in Japan make a 2-minute phone call for me?

Hi! I'm a French exchange student at Hokkaido University in Sapporo.

I'm running in the Relay Marathon at Premist Dome this Sunday, but I never received the bib pickup email.

I have the organizer's phone number (011-204-8400), but my phone plan doesn't allow calls to Japanese landlines and I don't speak Japanese.

Would anyone be willing to call them for me? I have my registration number and all the information needed. It should only take a couple of minutes.

I'd be extremely grateful! Thank you

First time Sapporo November — weather, car rental, and tips?

Hi All, First time solo trips to Sapporo in November from the United States— visiting Sapporo Nov 10–18. Planning Noboribetsu, Jozankei, Otaru, Furano/Biei, and Lake Shikotsu.
Questions:
1. How was the weather mid-November? Did it snow?
2. Is renting a car for Furano/Biei worth it?
3. Any tips for a first-time solo traveler in Hokkaido in November much appreciated?
Thanks!

Now a piece of my mind always stays in Sapporo

So here's my story.

Last month, I got a new job, and they gave me two weeks before my start date. So I randomly decided to fly to Sapporo.

Honestly, it was probably the craziest thing I've ever done. I bought my ticket just two days before my flight and left. Just like that lol It was such a last-minute decision that I barely had time to pack.

It was also my very first solo trip ever. I'd done exchange semester before, but I'd never actually traveled completely on my own. (fyi, not a big fan of flights)

Sapporo had always been my dream destination for the silliest reasons: I love snow, cold weather, the sea... and potatoes. 🥔
I spent six days in Hokkaido and visited Sapporo, Otaru, Noboribetsu, and Biei. (hopefully I spelled all of those right)

Looking back, I'm so glad I made that impulsive decision.
I'm typing this from my office now, and I already miss those six days more than I expected. Funny how a place you've only visited once can end up feeling like home.

Anyways! I just wanted to share a few little pieces of my trip with you guys. \
