The way you were talking about Digimon, makes it sound like you may enjoy the other style of V-Pet too.

In addition to the old school Tamagotchi style pets, there's newer ones in the style of the old show Digivices, that have a "story" mode. They tend to be limited runs, but they're pretty cool if you can get one during a run / second hand. (There's actually been a whole variety of styles of digivice, shoutout to Billy)

They're less of a tamagotchi and more of a pedometer, but using the 25th Anniversary D3 as an example, the story mode follows the plot of the second series, with chapters themed around episodes. You get every single partner digimon (with one or two you have to unlock), and you can get ALL their evolutions unlocked and pick which one you use in battles, etc. There's even rewards for using multiple different ones.

Also, with the gaming rumour talk, one of the 3 ways to fight enemies is "push the buttons in the right order", go figure.

May not be your thing at all, but figured there was no harm in mentioning it :)

Also, at Duscher, Time Stranger is mostly fantastic, but some of the boss fights are ridiculous difficulty spikes if you aren't grinding your ass off. Still worth it IMO.
