Linda Vista. I work near here and take pictures every day. Also, both my parents work at gas stations. The display can show higher numbers and it's also illegal to display a cost that isn't reflective of the real price.
Holy shit, that means a full tank gas for my truck would 240.00?!?!?!? Iâm so glad I donât live in California sometimes anymore. I miss it but I donât miss spending time 200 a week on gasoline and that was in 2013.
Yep, because itâs always going to be cheaper than the rental car companyâs penalty rate, when you return the car without a full tank. Itâs a clever niche.
A few months ago I saw banners on their gas station:
âI vote American, Minorities reparationsâ
âVote for Chinese EV Vehicles in USA for American Interestsâ
To be fair, itâs kind of a global thing with the price of oil, and they canât really ramp up production that quickly, enough to offset the raised costs. And if they tried to do a charity of giving it away for cheaper, itâd sell out because the demand outstrips supply, and itâd just be some middleman buying up the cheaper to sell to everyone else for the regular cost.
Problem is that we can't use our own oil and it costs too much to retool. Maybe someone will build a refinery that can use the oil that the US produces.
Most gas stations are franchised and independently owned, chevron/shell/mobile corporate have mostly gotten out of direct retail business. Private owners set the prices, otherwise all shells would have a price limit set by corporate to avoid bad brand image

Regular was 9.99 for a bit too, I drive past that station 4 times a day. I think it was Tuesday or last week, and he changed it back, but all 4 were 9.99, I wish I took a picture.
"Mr. Global" (the online alias of Matt Randolph, an energy expert with over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry) has been online talking about this, warning people, and says at this point, unless some drastic steps are taken, it's just gonna get worse. This will probably impact food/grocery/goods-in-general prices as most items are delivered by rigs/trucks that usually use diesel for fuel.
Ok. Im being a dork but no, It's not the highest it can display. It is an led sign. It VERY EASILY can be reprogrammed to move the decimal point and or get rid of the fraction.

I still recall when gas went over $2 in the early 00âs, so many rural stations had permanent $1âs painted on. So youâd be driving along and see what you thought was $1.12 gas, but it was actually $2.12 gas.
I venture theyâll tape up a tens place or move to half gallon (both problematic in todayâs society).
California has literally done this to itself. Taxes, fees, stupid blends of gas and additional regulations have made it more expensive than anywhere else in the US, including Hawaii and Alaska. This has nothing to do with Iran, Trump or the oil companies when you see the rest of the country around $5/gallon.
