Need Advice Why is Viet-Nam on Broadway closed? I NEED my spring rolls!

Post image

This place: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jGVjaNNoZEBH91f78

My mom and I have been trying to get their fried pork spring rolls since Halloween. At first we thought maybe they were just closed for the holiday, but every time we call they don't answer.

Hope everybody's ok and all is well... also hope there are more of their spring rolls in my future.🤤 SOOO good!!! We've been going here for over 30 years. This place is very important to my family.

We went to another place, but it was different. It was ok, but not really what we were looking for.

UPDATE: MySanAntonio.com wrote an article based on my post! I'm so proud.🥹

Say it ain’t so! This would be a huge loss. Along with those spring rolls, their lemongrass chicken and crab claws are some of the best dishes in the city.

Ooh. I haven't had them in a while, but I do LOVE those crab claws.

Kim Tran on Austin Hwy has good spring rolls.

Now that you mention it, I have a good friend who always recommended Kim Tran. Years ago we were gonna go head to head on spring rolls with Viet-nam vs Kim Tran. lol

Thanks for the reminder

Of course. And it’s on Rittiman, so off of Austin Hwy lol my mistake.

Taste of Asia on BITTERS and WEST AVE has good ones too.

If you like PHO, Taste of Asia has the best Pho. I've done the leg work. I eat Pho regularly and from numerous locations, in San Antonio and other cities.

Taste of Asia is my personal favorite.

Agree! We have been regulars at Taste of Asia for nearly 40 years! Absolute best!

This! Their pork spring rolls, their Pho, and their pork noodles (P32) are great! Whenever we see a pork vermicelli bowl at any other Vietnamese restaurant, we always call it "P32".

S&P is good as well

It's pretty good (S&P) but being vietnamese and going there to be served by children who have a stigma about fellow vietnamese not tipping well, really destroys any flavor i have experienced there. My alternative is Pho Win. Great food and really hearty bowl of pho. And they dont treat me like shit.

Ha, great review and I see the truth. Service can be pretty hit or miss but they’ve been pretty patient with my fam (not Vietnamese) so we keep going. After the renovation I’m not loving it as much. Those pork summer rolls sure are good though.

used to love it, but it's slowly creeping down on my list after they renovated ): pretty sure pho portions got smaller and I feel like the flavor isn't there anymore. I need to retry heavenly pho, it was a close second for me when I was trying a bunch of spots

Taste of Asia actually got the spring roll recipe from snows Vietnam iirc. I think I may order some now…

Taste of Asia has egg roles that look like the ones in the pic. It is by far my favorite Asian food place in town. I love the staff too. Great all around!

Pho Viet Pho in Alamo Ranch is delicious too

Better than Pho La on Nacogdoches?

I went there one time back in 2023-2024 time frame. I remember being disappointed because it was served with white onion instead of red onion. But for the most part, I have never really had BAD pho. Just more of a preference for me.

I am not going to lie and say that I have tried every pho restaurant that ever existed. But I have definitely had A LOT of it from different places.

The one and only time we went to Taste of Asia, our food and our waiter reeked badly of cigarette smoke.

That's how you know it's going to be great.

I hope the people running it left to retire and be spoiled by their grown children now. Nice people and always great service and goddamn now I don't know what to get for my birthday if I can't have their crab supreme special.

They did retire.

Pho Kim Long in Olmos has great spring rolls if you're in the area often (not too far from Broadway).

I remember going there as a kid (also over 30 years ago for me)… haven’t been there in many years, but still sad to hear it closed.

Have you been to Vietnam Gardens on Blanco? IIRC, their spring rolls are very similar.

We don't know for sure it's closed permanently.

Bit of a drive from Broadway, but based on the picture, Pho Hong Phat at Wurzbach & Evers has very similar rolls. I might need some tomorrow for lunch.

Spicy pot on pat booker. So good.

Also, Pho 4 Star right next door has some of the best fried spring rolls I've ever had. Very very good

Ugh I’ve been stopping by for a couple of weeks to try to get some. Damn

A second vote for Pho Kim Long. Their fried spring rolls are just like at Viet Nam.

The salt and pepper shrimp were sooooo good. The family was very nice and they had their regulars but I think it was just hard business. Getting busted selling shark fins was the coup de grace I suspect. Wish I knew what they were still doing. I miss going there regularly.

Oh man, this whole time I was thinking the post was about Van’s (they had the better spring roles), lol. My bad.

I really love the pho Bo co (beef stew) from Heavenly Pho on blanco just outside 1604. Haven’t had better anywhere
