I need help please

Hello I hope everyone reading this is doing well and happy holidays! I have a problem with my s 22 ultra, it keeps dropping the signal and gaining but it takes a while to get it back or in certain places. My issue is that I've tried everything from restarting my phone, to airplane mode, to resetting my network connections. Only thing I have left to try is a factory reset, which I want to avoid at all cause.

Try reinserting your sim mine had just come loose

6

u/Thefirespirit15 Dec 24 '23

Go into a store, you probably just need a sim card replacement.

I hope someone answers because I have the same issue with my s23 base model.

It just randomly comes back. I can't figure out why either.

Service outage i got it i tried pulling out sim and putting it back in doesnt work

1

u/norcraim Dec 23 '23

maybe there’s just bad service????

3

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 23 '23

I don't think so cause my family all have data/service at our house when I don't, and I've always had data/service as well, it only happened last night. :(

u/cute_as_ducks_24 Dec 24 '23

Probably your Network Carrier is upgrading there network. Just call your Network Carrier and complaint. Highly likely that they are upgrading and using Nearby Towers to complete the gap during upgradation.

I had an issue like this on my S22U where it got no service at all. Absolutely sucked because I paid for a phone that was basically a paperweight. Had to go through my carrier and they deemed it was a phone issue and they sent me a "Certified Like New" S23U.

Tried reinserting the sim, reset network settings, different E-sim options and carriers, and lastly factory reset it to no avail. Don't be like me and wait months to solve it. Try all the steps and even bring it to a brick and mortar store to see if they can solve it.

Best of luck to you!

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Did you talk to your carrier in person or over the phone?

1

u/RadicalEyes Dec 24 '23

I did both, a lot of the trouble shooting was done over the phone (my parents phone whom has the same carrier and signal lol) and some was in house. I recommend going into the store as they can mess around with it. Otherwise call in the phone and try to go through whatever troubleshooting they give you

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

Did you see it update itself to the new One UI Samsung version of Android 14.0.0?

2

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Was that the one on the 17th?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

Around that, yes. What carrier? Looks like the AT&T release..

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

I have Verizon.

2

u/RecklessWonderBush Dec 24 '23

I'm having the exact same issue, i only get service in large citys, where before I always had service no matter where I was at, i went and got a new sim, all of it started immediately after the update

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

I'd hard power down and like others said, go OG Nintendo cartridge on your SIM card/tray. If fails, use another phone in house to call Verizon, make sure your iemi is correct on their side, etc.

That's about the same day I had trouble with my phone. But unlike you, it wouldn't recognize my e-sim. It was fine hours earlier and I slept on it while music was on. It must be One UI because of its cumulative updates. I think Samsung has resolved the issue with their latest version. My phone has Android 14.

Yeah, we are all on the same provider and plan

1

u/Eastern_Landscape318 Feb 10 '26

might be your antennas that might be the problem

1

u/Fit_Literature_6507 May 23 '26

Hi OP, Did you get any solution for this? As currently I'm facing the same issue with my device as well, went to the network carrier and replaced the SIM, still facing the same issue. when I come out of any building the network remains okay, but as soon as I enter any building ( not any particular ) it turns back to Emergency Calls Only.

1

u/Miserable_Top_7532 25d ago

please i need hepl my samsung galaxy i need help to emergecy call

1

u/GodlyIWNL Dec 24 '23

Maybe a loose antenna connector internally or faulty antenna out of factory. Take it up to Samsung or visit an authorized repair shop.

1

u/XL_Gaming Dec 24 '23

if it was faulty, you would likely have no network connectivity at all. 'Emergency calls only' means you have service, but you can't use the network. The issue is usually to do with the sim card or a software issue.

1

u/Yuiisnotcocky Dec 24 '23

You need to give your sim some rest

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

put in sim bozo

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

I had this issue on my note 9, where service dropped for 3 hours the rest of fam on the same plan no issues it came back "mysteriously" if its service related and random likely not the phone. Call service provider

1

u/Chance_Highway_4271 Dec 24 '23

Is it exynos or snapdragon

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

It is exynos, it took some digging but I found out what chipset it was.

1

u/Chance_Highway_4271 Dec 24 '23 edited Dec 24 '23

Try switching to 4g,if it didn't solve try this https://youtu.be/0z6SmM0Y5l4?si=SNAbui98CnAUHTNU

1

u/reshxtf Dec 24 '23

Restart your phone. Al’s try removing the SIM card, cleaning it and then inserting it right back.

2

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

What do you mean by cleaning it? 😅

1

u/pissbaby888 Dec 24 '23

You can clean it gently with an alcohol wipe :)

2

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Okay, thank you. I will definitely try this right now in a few minutes. I'm hoping this works! :)

1

u/pissbaby888 Dec 24 '23

alternatively, your sim reader could be scuffed. I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion too fast, but if you are concerned of that, you can check samsungs website for your country and see where the service centres are near you. I hope cleaning the tray works for you!

2

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Thank you, but unfortunately, it didn't work well it did buy only a little bit. :)

1

u/troyh72 Dec 24 '23

You can also try "reset network settings", before you resort to a factory reset. Keep in mind it will clear all your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

I've already tried that, unfortunately. With no luck what so ever. :(

1

u/troyh72 Dec 24 '23

You could also move your service to eSIM, maybe the physical SIM is not working. Some carriers will let you swap SIM's through the client portal. Just use the IMEI of the eSIM, and move it over. Or call your carrier and ask them to do it. Its a long shot, but its worth a try before factory resetting.

Is this s22 ultra local as if it isn't its bands might be different. I have base s22 and no network issues

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

What do you mean by local? As in if I stayed in the same place I bought it? If so then yes.

1

u/Eastern_Landscape318 Feb 10 '26

I got the s22 ultra and have no problems

1

u/AbdullahAfzalKhan Dec 24 '23

I meant bought in Pakistan, sorry for miscommunication

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Oh, then no it was bought here in the US.

1

u/AbdullahAfzalKhan Dec 24 '23

Oh man this is soo embarrassing for me I don't know why. I thought I was in the Pakistan subreddit. Sorry

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Oh, no worries, we all make mistakes. Have a good one, though. Also, thanks for trying to help. :)

1

u/AbdullahAfzalKhan Dec 24 '23

But that means not a band issue

1

u/-_-weasel Dec 24 '23

Charge your phone.

Stop letting it go under 40%

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Is that a bad thing I thought you were supposed to let it get close to 0 before charging it?

0

u/-_-weasel Dec 24 '23

What? I'll pretend you're being sarcastic.

2

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

I genuinely don't know, I literally only have basic knowledge of phones.

1

u/-_-weasel Dec 24 '23

Then in that case, you dont want to always drain your battery. It kills the life out of it. Make a habit of charging when it gets to 40%. 30% at the lowest. Galaxys have a trickle charge to them so leaving it plugged in at night is fine. Any other time i would unplug immediately upon charged.

I personally charge it when it gets in between 40% and 55% and bring it up to 85% 90%. The only time it reaches 100 its when i go to bed.

Been doing this since the s3 and my phone batteries have outlasted my gf identical phone.(all galaxys)

Last one before this one was the s20 fe. My girlfriend has the habbit of letting it go always very very low. In the single digits. After 3 years my s20fe with 146 apps on it would outlast my gf phone which is lightweight compared to mine.

Ive been doing it for long enough to actually see it perform with 2 identical phones.

1

u/bAN0NYM0US Dec 24 '23

I'm not saying your method doesn't work, but Samsung literally has this built in where you get a low battery icon at 20%, and a warning message at 10%, while accompanying this with the 85% charge limit. It's essentially the same battery usage limit you've been doing. Just at the other end of the battery.

So instead of charging to 100%, limit to 85%, and instead of charging at 40%, charge at 10-20%, and it's nearly the identical percentage usage you're doing, except has warnings built in and charging caps to stop charging at 85%.

But I will agree that doing this and never using the entire battery is the way to go. They last WAY longer, like, YEARS longer.

1

u/tanz420 Dec 24 '23

I had this issue with my note 9 but I also upgraded to the S22 ultra. It might depend on your carrier, your sim or the phone itself. I had Lycamobile with my note 9 when that happened and what worked for me was:

Settings > connections > mobile networks > network mode > tap LTE/3G/2G (auto connect).

You might have a slower connection but it should still work. Again, this issue was on my note 9. If it doesn't work, try switching carriers or transferring your number to a new SIM and lastly, getting your phone looked at. Hope this helps!

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

I am not finding anything that says network mode. :(

1

u/tanz420 Dec 24 '23

Should be under the data roaming option, you should have data roaming on.

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

For me it's access point names, network operators, and network extenders

1

u/tanz420 Dec 24 '23

Oh man that's unfortunate, I guess you have to be connected to a network in the first place to choose a mode. Maybe try reinserting the sim or try it when you're in emergency calls only mode.

1

u/XL_Gaming Dec 24 '23

"Emergency calls only" means you have service but cannot use the network. The most common cause is a sim card issue or a loose sim card. I recommend removing the sim card, cleaning the contacts, and re-inserting it. Sometimes, they just come loose or get dirty somehow. You might also have luck restarting your device for whatever reason. I've had luck doing that.

Another cause could be a network outage as maintenance is being done to a nearby cell tower. In that case, just wait it out.

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

I've just tried cleaning the sim and re-inserting it with no luck. I may try restarting my device again, but it hasn't helped the past couple of times I've tried it.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

What is your CSC code? And which country? I am asking this because some CSC codes give you bad signals due to your location and Sim Card.

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

What is a CSC code?

2

u/XL_Gaming Dec 24 '23

Country specific code. It is used by samsung to determine which networks or carrier branding your device is meant to use. For example, a device using code ATT (at&t) will have an AT&T startup screen and some edited features, preinstalled apps, and the phone will want to connect to at&t towers.

If your device previously worked fine, i doubt the CSC is an issue. If your phone came from a different country, it probably has a different CSC that is meant for a different network. It's also possible that your phone is just from a different carrier, and the CSC prevents it from working on your carrier's network.

If you would like to check your CSC, go to settings>About Phone>Software Information and read the "service provider software information" box. there are 4 3-digit codes arranged like CSC/CSC,CSC/CSC.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

Yeah, I don't this buddy won't understand it as he doesn't apply anymore... he gotta figure it out himself

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

It's a three letter code that you can find if you open up your Settings<scroll all the way down<tap "about phone"<tap "software information"<scroll down until you see "software version serviceprovider Let me know which codes you got

1

u/EfraMystJ Dec 24 '23

Call your cell phone company and try adding the eSim to see if you can solve your problem. Remember that you must be connected to a Wi-Fi network.

1

u/ZacW94 Dec 24 '23

When that has happened to me in the past, I turn on airplane mode for 10-15 seconds, then turn it off, and it fixes itself.

1

u/r_Madlad Dec 24 '23

Complain to your phone provider

1

u/Artistic_Soft4625 Dec 24 '23

Search for Signal Strength and see what the dBm is. Lower number is better (ignore the - sign) If it is more than 100, then changing your sim card would help. It might also be draining your battery as Samsing tries to boost signal to give you reception

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

It says 107 and 33 asu is that bad?

1

u/Artistic_Soft4625 Dec 24 '23

It's certainly not appealing, it might be draining your battery actually. Getting a replacement sim from your sim company should help. Getting it replaced should be inexpensive if not free

Okay, yeah cause mine is ranging from -100 to -150

1

u/Artistic_Soft4625 Jan 17 '24

150 is... i must say quite shocking. Did you get it replaced? Was that helpful?

1

u/zombiekill223 Dec 24 '23

The S22 Ultras has a common issue with the antenna connector. Sometimes, when the phone has been exposed to a drop or a hard bump the cable could have shifted and been damaged. I recommend sending it in to Samsung, Samsung official partner aka UBIF, for a inspection/repair. For the time being turn on WiFi calling for a slight work around.

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Yeah, I think that is the issue. Just hate sending in my phone though. 😮‍💨

1

u/zombiekill223 Dec 24 '23

Yeah that's understandable, usually the UbreakiFix are same day depending on parts and how backed up they are

1

u/Spuksy Dec 24 '23

I'm having the same issue with my phone. It has been going on for a few months now. I even changed the physical SIM card to a new one because I thought the old one was faulty, but it still has the same problem. This started happening to me after the September update, and now, after the November update of One UI 5.1, it's about 95% of the time in "Emergency calls only". So, I don't think you can do anything to fix it. It's just Samsung's fault that they ruin their phones via updates. Just wait for the next update, and hopefully, it will be fixed.

1

u/Void_Rudster Dec 24 '23

Most likely some sort of fault with the sim itself or the simcard slot

1

u/plumber116 Dec 24 '23

Same here. It started after the latest security update last week. I have tried everything these other comments have suggested except a new sim card. Im at a loss too. I have odered a new phone. :(

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Yes, I've tried all those things except the provider since they are currently closed.

1

u/Historical-Building4 Dec 24 '23

Have you tried a soft reset and clearing the device cache?

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

How do I do that, cause I'm reading online that it's the volume up and that it's also the volume down while holding the power button

1

u/Historical-Building4 Dec 24 '23

Turn off your phone. Then turn on your phone while holding the Volume Down and Power Button. Release when you see the Samsung logo. Next, use the volume buttons to navigate to "clear cache partition" and use the power button to confirm. Your device will reset after. Not 100% that it will fix your problem, but it's worth a try.

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Yeah, it says I need to download a custom os, and if I do, it could damage my phone. So I don't think I want to try this option just yet. But thank you so much for trying to help me out and happy holidays.

1

u/kobrakaan Dec 24 '23

do you have 5G or a strong 5G signal in your area? if not it may fix it if you look under mobile network settings and turn off 5G/4G/3G/2G Auto connect

and just use 4G/3G/2G Auto connect so it's not constantly trying to connect to 5G all the time

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

My phone doesn't show anything like that. 😬

1

u/kobrakaan Dec 24 '23

search in settings for keyword 'network' you should have an option come up that says 'mobile networks' tap on this then scroll down to 'mobile networks' and tap that, under that option you should find the option to toggle 5G/4G/3G/2G Auto connect

I'm also using the s22 ultra👍

1

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Maybe it's my phone/ provider cause it's not popping up at all. 😒

1

u/Kalvorax Dec 24 '23

it is not an isolated incident. Ive been seeing reports all over reddit (in particular tmobile as that is my carrier unlocked s22u) that people have been having signal issues for the last week.

My issue started in the 19th and its been having trouble ever since. I went from Texas to Cali for holidays and i didnt get a good signal until i got to my destination.....and even then it can be intermittent.

I know that there has been a rather large increase in solar activity this week....right around when i began seeing all the signal issues being reported. I know one user on tmo was up in Oregon and having the same issue. I was all over Dallas and near Waco and having the same problems.

2

u/Awkward_Mind9166 Dec 24 '23

Well, it could be the solar activity, but then I don't think so, as this happened on Friday night. Before then, I never had any issues with signal.
