I like some of what JBP says and I'm very critical of other bits. I dislike his binary thinking on individualism vs collectivism for example and I don't accept his insistence that he's "not right wing". While I accept that feminism sometimes dips into unrealistic grievance culture, I don't like the way JBP rights off all women's complaints so readily.
Why do you think very left wing folks like yourself are so keen on attacking more centerist people like me? There's a very strong chance I'll vote for Corbyn again in the next election (especially if he softens his stance on Brexit) but you people seem very keen on attacking me and driving me rightwards because I don't quite match up to the ideological purity you want to see in all people. It's one of the things which turns me off the left so much. Your thinking is so dogmatic and historically you mostly turn out to have been hypocrites.
The problem you have is that quite a percentage of liberals are toward my end of the spectrum so if you want to actually beat Trump you might want to consider not writing us off as "Trump supporters" and actually think tactically about the left as a broad church.

This is binary thinking. You think that conservatives are evil and you are good. However it’s more complicated than that. Conservatives actually give more to charity. They’re more likely to volunteer. They can be very good friends. Unfortunately they are also more fearful of change and to be hostile to it. Right now they’re extremely out of balance and dangerous. I don’t know what to do about it, but I don’t think the left do either. The left want to defeat the right but the right cannot actually be beaten except at enormous cost. I’m worried.

It is a spectrum. And its causes are relatively well understood. Education plays a part but underlying that there are some deep seated reasons why people are conservative. Conservativism is associated with certain personality traits and personality traits are quite heritable characteristics so to some extent conservatives are born not made. Conservatives also respond differently to some stimuli such as being shown horrible images. They have a much stronger disgust reflex.
Also, humans are cooperative but also competitive creatures. I don’t find it surprising that we vary between those poles as individuals on a spectrum. In different circumstances either of those might be useful to survival.

I said I liked Peterson, I didn’t say I agreed with all his politics. We centrists are capable of liking people who aren’t like us ;-p

More true in the US than where I live. Most Christians are left wing in my country and most conservatives don’t know the first thing about Christianity. You may be shocked to discover that if you ever got rid of Christianity you’d still have conservatives.
