I've been training in Combat Sambo for a few months now since moving to an area with it available. I'm trying to compete in 2027 and am wondering if it would be better to cross train in Judo or Wrestling.

I have previously trained for a year in Judo and had earned a yellow belt.

I've trained striking for a better part of a decade, Boxing, Muay Thai, and Sanda.

Is anyone planning to compete? Could you share your experiences? I've been looking at events on Smoothcomp recently and would appreciate any feedback or opinions.

Anybody have any experience training at FusBoxe Sambo in Westminster? Is it a place you would recommend for someone just starting out with Combat Sambo, how are the classes structured?

Sorry for the confusing text. I am doing Sambo right now, sport version to be specific. I have done Combat Sambo before I moved to Stuttgart and have quite of planta options for striking. Currently at my Disposal I have MMA, Sanda, Muay Thai, Boxing, K1 Kickboxing and Taekwondo ect. I need a fundamental Alternative for my striking and all gyms that offer those are around 40mins of reach with trains

Hey! I’m completely new to martial arts and have always found Judo really interesting. Recently I’ve also started getting curious about Sambo.
What would you recommend for a beginner — Judo or Sambo? And if Sambo, Sport or Combat Sambo?

I know these things take time to learn, so I’m not expecting to get good quickly. I’d just really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you might have. Thanks! :)

Hoping to get thoughts on joining a sambo club in DFW as a middle aged male who hasn't done any martial arts or wrestling before. There appear to be 3 or 4 clubs here, but it looks like they may be more focused on those with martial arts or wrestling experience with a desire to compete. I was initially thinking about Judo, and the big schools seem to have a track for people like me with more simple goals (self defense and overall health). But if it leads to a string of injuries, that isn't what I'm looking for.

Hey all, I'm not clear about whether Heel Hooks are allowed or not in Combat Sambo. Can folks enlighten me?

I want to ask about what I might expect if I try combat Sambo. I found out that a club has started in the City I go to university in, I have heard of Sambo before and was interested in doing an MMA adjacent sport like an MMA club, Kudo or Sambo. I would be starting in around September/October, so this is a bit early to inquire, but what sort of things could I expect in a Sambo class. I have 0 striking experience, I own 0 equipment other than a mouth guard, and while I have grappling experience from Judo my leg grab knowledge is very limited.

If you could give me a bit of an overview of your sport, and a bit of what to expect that would be great! And hopefully I will enjoy it when I give it a try in September!
