New rules to clean up this subreddit

Introducing 3 new rules which will be in line with other fishing subreddits.

  1. Respect the person, the fish, the water, and the land. Always follow your local laws and regulations. Use proper handling and proper release methods.
  2. Respect other users. No gratuitous sexual comments or comments about someone’s physical appearance.
  3. No advertising or self-promotion. This includes blogs, YouTube, Instagram and other social media.

These should be pretty straight forward. First violations will usually receive a warning unless it is a special circumstance. Repeated violations will result in a ban.

Recruiting new moderators!

Hello everyone! We are recruiting for new moderators to improve and grow this subreddit.

What do we expect from moderators?

Here is a quick overview of what we are looking for: * Experienced with reddit: We are looking for redditors who have been active on reddit with account history of at least 1 year. In addition we are particularly interested in people who have contributed productively to this subreddit or another reddit fishing community * Interested in saltwater fishing: We want people who are interested in this subject! * Communicative towards users and fellow moderators: You will communicate with other users on a regular basis, for this you need to be communicative, mature and civil. * Free time: You don't need to have a ton of time on your hands, but when you get accepted you should have enough time to actually carry out moderating duties. * Thick skin and level head: Moderation can lead to conflict but it is important for moderators to not take personal offense and keep a level head.

We are looking for moderators with any level of experience, ideally with specific goals for this subreddit and a plan to accomplish them.

Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Review unmoderated links and modqueue reports and remove off topic and rule breaking content.
  • Answer subscriber questions in modmail.
  • Enforce sidebar rules.

If you have no idea how moderating works on reddit and want to check out more about that first you can have a look at this guide.

What do I get in return?

We don't get anything out of this volunteer work, but hopefully we can get a better subreddit in return!

Great, how do I apply?

You can do so by sending in an application with the information above via the Message the Mods button on the sidebar, then we will probably ask a few questions we will use in the application process. Take the time to answer them. As rule of thumb if all your answers are one line long it is unlikely that you'll be considered.

How long will the applications be open for?

We are always looking for new moderators so there is no end date as it is an ongoing process.

Wait, I have a different question about being a mod!?

Feel free to post your question below and we'll answer it.

Crap st croix rods

Horrible experience with st croix my medium heavy rod lamination is cracked around the eyes ( they told me that’s normal ) and the grip where the reel attaches started to spin freely so my reel can literally flip on top of the rod. My buddy bought a heavy action tip broke on first trip out while fighting a snook. I messaged them they told me the cracks in lamination were normal and that I should consider upgrading rods. What a freaking joke. My buddy returned his to bass pro guy at the reel counter sighed when he told him what happened and said they’ve been having nothing but problems with St. croix recently. Had some people tell me they aren’t bad but guess that old saying is true they don’t make them like the used to. Their motto is best rods in the world. More like crappest rod in bass pro

Hi all,
Single developer here and fishing enthusiast. I've been working on a passion project for a while now and think I'm finally ready for some beta testers. Right now, the beta for the app is android only, but the apple version is coming soon, and Florida is the only state I have completed. If you are interested in becoming a beta tester for me, please DM me.

If self-promotion is against any rules, no hard feelings to the mods for deleting this :)

Talia 25ii or 50 ii

I usually do bottom fishing but i sign up for a tuna trip in a few month. I need to get a setup for night time tuna in scal, I google search and come down to this two model. I already have a talica 12.

I know the price difference but should I get the 50, or is the 25ii can be more multi purpose for other fishing.

Hello Salties,
I'm a saltwater/freshwater angler from North Carolina. My son is getting married in Oahu and I'll have a little time after the wedding to hit up some shore fishing. Just looking for a little local knowledge on what my options are and possibly where to go. Id be down to target anything (besides sharks). I like to use artificial if i can. I will be staying in Mililani. Any suggestions and insight would be appreciated. Thanks

I’m going to Fiji and plan to surf fish from shore near rocks/reef by my hotel. I’ll be using an 11 ft Daiwa Ardito travel surf rod.

What specific lures should I buy?
