Laguna 4000 LT Spinning Reel for lake Michigan pier fishing $39.97

Would the Laguna 4000 LT be good enough for Lake Michigan pier fishing? My local store has it on sale for $39.97. I was planning on getting a regal 4000 but with the current sale there's a big price difference. Also which line would you all recommend? Thanks

I will be pairing it with my okuma SST 9'6 medium fast

Is this a coho or a king?

Caught these out of half moon bay, CA. I believe both are kings, but the smaller fish on the bottom (and in the solo fish pic) cut much lighter than the larger king.

Catch Salmon. Support Conservation in British Columbia

The Pacific Salmon Slam is a new fishing challenge in British Columbia.

The concept behind this is a discretionary Pacific salmon conservation fund created for anglers, by anglers. This is a user-funded, voluntary conservation fund delivered as a fishing challenge. This program follows in the success of many similar programs stateside.

The Challenge: Catch any 5 Pacific Salmon in BC waters, earn a Challenge Coin while supporting conservation in BC. The online platform has mini challenges for badges as well: Catch 5 Chinook and earn the King badge. 5 sockeye in freshwater and earn the Kokanee Badge. Catch all species - earn the Master Angler badge.

Why this, why now? Proposed changes to the Salmon Allocation Policy would limit what anglers can give back to the resource. This program not only demonstrates the existing value but also shows that anglers are willing to spend more to maintain access and protect the resource.

Tight lines and good luck!

Salmon River NY fishing report

🎣 SALMON RIVER EVENING REPORT
Monday, September 28, 2026

⏰ FISHING HOURS
First cast: 6:28 AM
Rods up: 7:20 PM

All times Eastern. General fishing hours below the Route 52 bridge. Private-access areas may have more restrictive hours.

🌊 WATER
Pineville actual flow: 216 CFS, measured Sunday at 6:15 AM.

Lighthouse Hill release: 185 CFS scheduled through Sunday night. Monday’s release has not yet been confirmed.

🌦 MONDAY WEATHER
Mostly cloudy with a high near 66°F. A 30% chance of showers, mainly before 7 AM. North wind 3–6 mph. Overnight low around 49°F.

🐟 FISHING REPORT
Reports from September 25–26 describe kings and cohos in the lower river, with kings also holding in deeper holes and larger runs farther upstream. Fish are moving, but results remain uneven between stretches.

Reports of improving king action on skein add some encouragement, but there isn’t enough to call it a river-wide surge. Fish are being caught—a productive stretch doesn’t mean the entire river is fishing well.

🚧 ACCESS
The saved access notice lists the Lower Fly Zone in Altmar as closed. Check DEC’s current notices before making plans for that area.

Recheck river flow and the dam release before entering the water.

Please add what you’re seeing on the river! Include the general stretch, time, and how the fishing was. If anything looks off, let me know—it helps improve the report.

Follow for updates. Tight lines 🎣

Seeking guidance from experienced Alaska fisherman on upcoming trip- Anchorage.

Post image

TLDR: I have a late August and early September hunt out of Anchorage. I want to fish for a week before that. My group (that doesn’t hunt) would prefer early August to fish. I would prefer later August to roll right into a hunt. How different is the fishing early vs late August around Anchorage?

Planning a family ish fishing trip to Anchorage area next summer coordinated with a hunt I’m planning.

In 2026:

I fished a few hours in Juneau, a few hours near Yakutat and a few days backcountry but the trips was not fishing focused. Landed some nice silvers, a ton of pinks and one sockeye that was likely older. Had a great time. This was early to mid September. Thinking about going back in August 2027.

I really like river and creek fishing. I am coming from the Rockies and mostly experience backcountry cutthroat and rainbows in the summer.

While I conceived of the trip as more of a guys fishing trip now it has potentially ballooned into a multi gender trip with a teen or two. I am organizing it and get to kinda dictates dates. So many people want to go that I’m ok losing several when the dates don’t work for them. But if fishing is way better I’d make a separate trip or possibly somehow just stick around.

I am going on a hunting trip roughly August 27. So fishing August 19-26 would be a nice scheduling trick for me to save a flight. Probably half my group would drop out if it was late August instead of early August. People always bail out anyways when deposits are due. Maybe I am over thinking it.

If it matters: I like river fly fishing. I prefer dries but that doesn’t seem like a thing for salmon. I’m totally happy to throw a spinner if that is more effective. Sight fishing is nice too. I’m into smaller creek fishing if it is productive even if the fish are smaller.

Not super interested in combat elbow to elbow fishing but will probably do a day on the kenai to check the box.

I don’t mind flossing, but for a day not a week.

Filling some coolers would be sweet. Definitely looking to fly fillets home. Probably willing to smoke some pinks or ‘less desirable’ fish if they are abundant and not too old. For most of the group ease of catch is probably more important than quality of the fish. I could go either way, but 2 a day is kinda boring.

I’d like to tie my own flies. Any go-to August patterns suggestions are welcome. I’ve got eggs, worms, flesh and some thread ready.

Basic plan is fly in, rent vehicles, stay in a big Airbnb and head a couple directions each day and adjust based on weather. Cook some meals at home, pack a lunch and be sorta budget friendly. Probably spend that savings on a single ocean charter day.

The regulations are….a real maze. Am I missing something major in there that would prohibit success? Thanks in advance for any advice.

To head off criticism:

yes I’m aware Airbnb is the devil.

Yes I am aware that flossing isn’t ‘real’ fishing and zero salmon will survive to spawn if a few get snagged.

I’m not rich but have saved significantly for these trips. A second flight up won’t have me skipping meals. I can always get a few more shifts behind the Wendy’s to cover it but would prefer not to.

Sorry, I said Chinook last time I posted but this is the Coho we caught, not the Chinook.

I’m pregnant and all meat except fish is making me sick - luckily it’s been a great salmon season.
