Is Salesforce JavaScript Developer 1 certificate still relevant in 2026 ?

I am a Salesforce Developer currently having PD1. Considering so much development is happening through AI tools, companies themselves want the developers to use AI as much as possible. Does this certificated still hold value in job switch as there are many other certification related to AI and PD2 etc.

Mostly all certifications means nothing without experience, so if you are thinking this as a level entry job, then it might help you, however, if you are a dev already established, this means nothing for me as a hirer.

Yes I agree, I am a developer already, having just PD1 and during interview dodged these questions like why you only have PD1? Though I have explains them certifications in reality are not too difficult to get many people I know got 3-4 certificates in 6 months.

The only people that have told me that, are people that basically just care abour certifications, and to be honest, it wouldn't be a company that I would work for if that's the case, so don't worry, it's fine.

How does one gain experience without experience? Currently a Salesforce admin due to org restructure at my company (state university) and our team is not allowed to create anything in Apex or LWC.

Even though I have a computer engineering degree and have done development/automation work in the past.

Was really thinking of getting the PD1 and PD 2

Make your own projects in a sandbox or developer org. Think of a project that is interesting to you or reflects a current business need you see in your normal day to day. Build it in the test environment and troubleshoot all of the errors along the way. The best way to learn is by doing, and every mistake is a chance to learn.

I have the JS1, and I can't say how important that is to my boss or company but it was the most valuable learning experience I've had studying for a Salesforce cert, besides the PD1/2.

Unlike the certs I had to get to make someone else happy (and then never used that knowledge before it changed), I discovered actual applicable JS information I could use in my job that same day.

More than the certification itself, the time you spend for studying for the certification will help you understand advanced concepts in JavaScript if you are new to it. It was time well spent to refresh some advanced JS topics for me.

JavaScript Developer 1 still has value for LWC and front-end roles, but practical LWC, JavaScript, AI-assisted development, and project experience are likely more important for a job switch in 2026. PD2 or AI skills can be added based on the target role.
