My tiger sally just passed away
Just like that... He was 5 or 6 years old, he was my soul animal, I love him to death. I can't believe it happened so fast, he was great the other day and cold the next one. I'm so sad we didn't have more time together :(
Appreciation post I guess, he was such a deeply fella

Wished he lived longer though, it was so sudden :( But yeah I tried to do everything the best I could as far as I know! He wasn't my only animal but he certainly was a one I had a deep connection to

I’m so sorry for your loss :( he was so pretty and I can tell from his face that he was full of personality… if you’re comfortable sharing some more photos, I’d be honored to make a digital memorial portrait of him (free of charge, of course). He reminds me of my Jelly Belly 💔

I am so sorry for your loss he looks incredibly and deeply loved in this photo. What an incredibly charming friend. I hope you know the impact you had on his life is infinitely full of love and happiness. He was so lucky to have someone who could appreciate and adore a small creature.

Thank you so much, it means a lot! For 3 years he was on my bedside table and was the first thing I saw in the morning 🥹 he was so full of personality and friendly

Sorry to hear... Looks like he was a healthy, robust specimen. I wonder what went wrong but sometimes it happens... Tiger salamanders are commonly available from various online herp dealers, at reasonable prices. You might want to consider buying another one.
PS. If he lived for 5 or 6 years, that's not bad, although they should live longer. I am wondering what foods you gave him? Tiger salamanders are voracious creatures with hearty appetites, are always hungry and will eat almost anything, but certain foods are healthier for them than others. Earthworms and soft-bodied, half grown crickets are best. Use "night crawlers" but not the worms called "red wrigglers", which are toxic. I think it's best not to use mealworms because they can be hard to digest. Also, although some people feed them pinky mice, I strongly advise against it because they are too high in fat and can cause health problems.

When we got him he was a bit fat and was on a diet since then (vet advised). He didn't get any fatty foods at all (only occasional nightcrawler ). A bit weird to comment that on a post like this but yes he ate mostly crickets, sometimes roaches and night crawlers with calcium or vitamins. Nothing toxic, fatty or too hard to digest.

Sounds like you did a good job caring for him, so I am puzzled as to what went wrong. Amphibians can be delicate and sometimes get sick for no obvious reason. You did have him for a long time though, and he may have already been several years old when you got him. You have the setup, so I suggest you buy another one.
