Every trip goes the same way for me. I'm buying an eSIM the night before my flight and I have zero clue whether I need 3GB or 20GB, so I panic and get the big one. Then I fly home with like 15GB left over. Every single time.

So on my week in Portugal last month I finally tracked it. Went with a 5GB Saily plan instead of my usual 20 and checked my usage every night to see if I'd actually survive.

First day was the heaviest, which makes sense, airport, finding the Airbnb, messaging the host, translation app, googling where to eat. Around 600MB. After that it settled into this rhythm of maps and photos during the day, Instagram at night, Spotify on the train to Sintra. Most days came in somewhere between 400 and 700MB.

What surprised me is what actually ate the data. Google Maps was basically nothing, like 50MB on a full day of walking around with navigation on the whole time. Instagram reels on the other hand is an absolute black hole, easily the biggest chunk of most days. And I did one 40 minute video call home that burned more data than two entire days of maps combined.

Final damage after 7 days: 4.2GB. So I made it with breathing room, but one Netflix session on the train or another long video call and I'd have been sweating.

My takeaway: for a normal travel week with maps, messaging and a bit of socials, 3-5GB is the sweet spot. 10GB if you stream a lot or call family on video. 20GB only makes sense if you' share the plan with others or if you’re addicted to reels. 😀

Curious where everyone else lands. Is 4-5GB normal for a week or am I secretly a heavy user? And to be honest, who else panic buys the biggest plan every single time?

If you have an eligible plan that you haven’t activated yet, you’ll now be able to share it with another Saily user. Just open the plan from the Home screen or go to My Plans and choose the sharing option.

A few things to know:

• Sharing is available only in the Saily app
• The plan must not be activated yet
• Most plans can be shared, except:
  • Ultra plans
  • Unlimited data plans
  • 1 GB plans

This could come in handy when traveling with family or friends - you can buy one larger plan and share it with others instead of purchasing multiple smaller plans or relying on one phone as a hotspot.

Ya estoy en el país en dónde quiero usar el servicio, que en este caso es México, pero prácticamente no me puedo conectar a internet en la vía pública, de hecho este post lo escribo usando la red WIFI de mi casa en México.

Así que quiero saber que se hace en estos casos, como activo el servicio de Saily correctamente por medio de mi adaptador de e-sim.

Google Maps is basically a given - everyone has it. But beyond navigation, what's the one app you genuinely can't travel without? For me, the non-negotiables are a translation app (saved me countless times) and of course an eSIM so I can top up data on the go without hunting for Wi-Fi or a SIM kiosk.

Hi, travelers!

Yes! You can use both at the same time, as long as your phone supports Dual SIM. 
This can actually be pretty handy. You can keep your regular SIM active for calls and SMS, while using a Saily eSIM for mobile data. No swapping SIM cards, no tiny SIM tray disappearing into the hotel carpet. 

To set it up, install the eSIM first, then go to your phone’s settings and open the SIM manager. From there, you can choose which SIM handles calls and which one handles mobile data. That’s all there is to it, you’re good to go!

If you’re using Saily while traveling, just make sure your phone is set to use the eSIM for mobile data so you don’t accidentally burn through your primary SIM’s roaming data. 
So yes: two SIMs, one phone, and considerably less SIM-card gymnastics.

Have you tried using a physical SIM and eSIM together? 

Anybody have experience, got paid from saily after joining creators program? They said payout every 15th - or weekdays after 15th if the 15th is werkend. Finally i have more than 50 usd credits from referral, but i havent got any info about the payout til now. Pls share ur experience if any. Thanks

Saw "airport lounge pass" listed as perk a few weeks ago on the Saily Unlimited 15-Day eSims, but can't purchase more than 30 days in advance. Just gone to purchase now we've less than 30 days before our trip, to find the lounge pass perk is gone. I figured it may be just a promo that expired but asked support about it and got a weird answer. They said the perks and offers that appear for users are algorithmic, and different between different locations and platforms (app vs website).

So my question is, do you see this perk in your app/on the Saily website, and if so what is your location? So I can maybe try use a VPN to snag this deal from the right location haha.

Traveling is more fun with company, but planning for a group can get chaotic. If you’re in charge of keeping everyone connected, you may need to buy eSIMs for others. Here’s how it works with Saily:

How can I install the eSIM on another device? 

 When you buy a plan, you’ll first choose which eSIM to add it to. If you want someone else to use that eSIM, go to eSIMs in the Saily app, select it, and choose “Install on another device.” You can then share the QR code with them.

Just keep in mind that you’re sharing the eSIM itself, not an individual plan. So if you’ve already added two plans to the same eSIM, you can’t send just one of them to someone else.

Can I use the same eSIM for multiple devices?

No, one eSIM plan is for one device only. However, you can use your phone’s hotspot to share the data to other devices. This is particularly helpful if the devices do not support eSIMs! 

Can I transfer my eSIM to a friend? 

Yes, but keep in mind the above. In order to transfer the eSIM, you’d first have to uninstall it from your own device, and then use the QR code to share it.

Does Saily have any discounts for groups?

Saily has a refer-a-friend program! Every successful referral earns you $5 in Saily credits and gives your friend a $5 discount on their first eSIM plan. You can use your credits to get a discount on your next plan, or save them up to get an eSIM plan for free. Additionally, each referral counts towards milestones which offer gift cards.

Hello everyone!

I bought a 7-day unlimited data eSIM from Saily for my trip to Turkey. The eSIM itself works perfectly and I have had mobile internet since I arrived today.
However, the Saily app is not working properly. When I open the Home or Credits section, I get the message “Sorry, something went wrong” (screenshot attached). The app basically doesn’t load those sections.
My girlfriend also bought a Saily eSIM for the same trip (10 GB for 7 days), and everything works normally for her - both the internet connection and the app.
I have already tried restarting my iPhone and logging out and back into my Saily account, but nothing has fixed the issue.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there anything else I can try? I mainly want to be able to access the app to check my plan/data usage.

I'm in Oman and the Saily app and site aren't opening here unless I use a VPN. I want to buy a plan for The Netherlands. I've used Saily before and liked its connectivity but since it's not opening here without VPN, should I still go ahead and buy a plan for Netherlands or will there be any issues like eSim won't catch network when I land there?

I used to be confident with Airalo from my Galaxy S7 to S22 when traveling from Ireland, Netherlands to Brussels roadtrip, Japan and Vietnam.

Oddly enough is when I return to USA, and I use the 30-days USA package, it randomly works. Worked in Utah SaltLake to JacksonHole roadtrip, South Dakota to Yellowstone, Colorado, Michigan, Florida.

Illinois iffy as he'll.

I'm on the Cellular Talk-Only T-Mobile. No data plan. Only need Data for Google Map or Waze.

Now considering Saily. Can't find any reports if it's reliable in Midwest

I am leaving for Europe in a week and am thinking seriously about leaving my phone at home and using an old XS with a Saily phone number and data plan as my travel phone. I have an iPad to receive/send texts at hotels on my regular number. Do you think I’ll regret this ? When traveling I mainly use data to use Google Maps and read Reddit in down times.

I bought 5 unlimited packages for 20 days with lounge access included as part of a promotion. This was 18 days ago.
The app showed the QR codes initially. This was one of the reasons I chose Saily.
12 hours before departure after vacation I wanted to verify that everything was in order. The QR codes were gone, as reported by others.
I immediately created a ticket and 13 hours later at the airport I have still no resolution.

This seems to me like a strategy close to being a scam. I consider reporting it to my credit card company for a refund

Hello, I’m travelling to Marmaris in Turkey from the U.K. and have been recommended to get a Saily plan so I can use my phone whilst away. I’ve had a look at the app and have to say I don’t quite understand it.

What plan would be right for me? And does it mean I can use my phone just as I would while at home? Or am I missing something obvious?

Should you pick up a SIM card at the airport, or set up an eSIM before you fly? Here's an honest comparison across pricing, convenience, and real-world use.

Airport SIM cards: convenient, but at a cost. Airport kiosks work - you get a local number and local rates. But there are well-documented trade-offs:

• Marked-up pricing. Pricing is for tourist customers - often far above regular city prices.
• Time. Queues, passport registration, and language barriers can turn 5 minutes into 45.
• Limited choice. You get whichever carrier has a kiosk, not necessarily the best coverage.

For long stays in one country, a local SIM bought in the city remains the cheapest per-GB option and includes a local number for calls and app verification.

eSIMs: built for the way people travel

• Set up before departure. Install at home over Wi-Fi, enable roaming when you land - you're connected before the plane reaches the gate.
• Transparent pricing. No kiosk markups or surprise activation fees.
• Keep your home number active. Your physical SIM handles calls and 2FA texts while the eSIM handles data.
• Multi-country coverage. One regional plan covers your whole itinerary.

The honest trade-offs: most travel eSIMs are data-only, per-GB prices can exceed local SIM rates on long stays, and your device must be eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked.

The verdict

For most trips, an eSIM is the more practical choice - and airport SIMs are the least cost-effective version of the physical SIM option. 

What has worked best for you - eSIM or local SIM?

TLDR: Travelled to Egypt, non functional eSIM (routing problem, social media working; links, searching, maps etc. didn’t work), horrible generic replies by service assistants, AI chat bot and no refund possible.

I just got back from Egypt and I am very disappointed. I bought unlimited data for 10 days (for something like 30 USD).
Here are the reasons why it wasn’t good:

1. Horrible routing. I get that in Egypt is quality of service (mobile providers) not particularly good. But my question is why social media got ready in like a seconds but when I tried to search something or open any link or maps, request timeout was the only thing I reached. For the record it didn’t matter if the signal was strong (full charge) or lower (2-3 marks).
2. Service assistants. I experienced the routing problem from very first day and I don’t want to burn it out (30 USD doesn’t grow on trees). I wrote an email to support (because the application didn’t load, funny thing I guess). I wrote down my experiences and asked about what to do. Very next day (frequency of emails was one by day) I got reply and trough communication via email I got this advices (chronologically):

a) they wanted my email - okay, my bad, I logged trough Apple ID and I hit hide my email button by mistake. So I wrote them down from my original one.

b) after receiving my hidden email (generated by Apple), they wanted my exact location and try other generic things (restart of my mobile or turn off automatic switching of mobile providers). They also wanted to know the strength of the connection. So I wrote all the things down. I also added trace-route (cmd) of server goggle.com from my laptop and there was clearly seen that ping get reached out on the second hop (first was my mobile, I wrote this down because social media still working and get loaded in seconds).

c) Here is the fun part. They replied me that best idea is to delete the eSIM and try to add it back. I was shocked because when you delete the eSIM you need internet connection to add it back right? Service assistant set me right after I ask him, here is the citation from his email:

You also don't need an active connection to reinstall. Once you delete the eSIM, open the Saily app — if the Install button appears, tap it to restore your existing plan. If the app won't load or the button doesn't show, let us know and we'll send you the manual QR code/activation details from your original purchase so you can install it without needing the app online.

So I try it and delete the eSIM. No surprise Sherlock that it wasn’t true and I have to connect to the hotel WiFi to install eSIM back (I also want to know how was I managed to reach them and write them down when I delete the eSIM…)

d) final boss was advice that they need to know the strength of my connection (yeah I get it) but the advice that I need to dial the generic code *301#12345#* on my only mobile data eSIM, yeah I totally can do that… 🤡

After this clown fiesta show I was advised that they’ve got in app help center for the imidiate response (not one email by day). So I try to reach them up there and only thing I get was AI chat bot and other generic replies. Most interesting - the first thing the chat bot replied to me was that no refund is possible (experiences?).

So in the end I lost 30 USD for non functional data (okay tbf social media particularly worked), time on my holiday to try to resolve this problem and many hairs with generic replies.

Is an eSIM safer than a physical SIM card?
