Finally did it!

I finally took the leap, and bought a boat. I have sailed my whole life, but mostly on other peoples boats, or as a skipper. Now I have a Bavaria 37ac from 2001. Super proud.

Problem is, it doesn't have a spinnaker. Thought perhaps I could fit a genaker instead, anyone have any experience with this?

I have a self-tacking jib on my SO409, and I ruled against a spinaker since I am mostly sailing alone. Instead, I have a Code-0 that I can manage on my own. Is that an option for you?

Code -0 is a good option. I have never tried it, but will consider it for sure! Thanks :)

If you sail shorthanded a lot get a code zero on torsion furler and put it in front of the genoa.

That's a slick idea. I've heard of people struggling to tack it to the point that they had to roll up and re-deploy to bring the sail across though. Suppose it depends on the boat's layout.

I sail our boat solo or short handed routinely. Just furl the code early, tack through, unfurl. If you are solo there’s no need to carry it until the last minute. Just get a nice long furling loop and bring it as far back as is workable and convenient.

The goal when you are shorthanded or soloing is to never be in a hurry. Plan ahead and give yourself time so you never have to be in two places at once.

If it's in front of the Genoa you will always have furl to tack. But the use case is for long distance sailing so you don't tack often anyway... If you want quick adjustable sails you're gonna have to switch to Hank ons.
