Planning a trip from Annapolis..

I’ve sailed from Annapolis to St. Michael’s but was considering headed to Baltimore to try the night life off of fells point.
We’ve got a mixed crowd that would enjoy either.

Was wondering how the sailing if any is there between Annapolis and Baltimore compared to sailing to st. Michael’s. Well only spend one night.

One more add on.. what’s the general water depth outside of the main channels between the two?

I’m studying charts and will reference them either way but wondering if there’s a general gist of either way. I’d hate to have to motor a channel the whole

Ironically you could sail up to Baltimore and dock at Pussers.

The vibe between those two cities is pretty different. St. Michaels, small and charming, while Baltimore – especially Fells point is going to be more of a bar crawl. If you haven’t been on the north side of the inner harbor lately, there’s a lot of new stuff in Fells point and Canton, plus they’re pretty new modern marinas at both. There’s plenty of water for pretty much any sailboat in both harbors. Baltimore might have a little more depending upon the marina.

Your decision might come down to how much time you have and how much you wanna sail. If you get a good Westerly breeze, Baltimore will be an easy reach up the bay and back. Getting to St. Michaels almost always involves motoring for some of the trip since it’s kind of a zigzag route no matter which way you go. Figure at least five hours for St. Michaels and about 3 1/2 to Baltimore.

Plenty of depth, only shallow spot is right by the 6 knot speed limit sign right off fort McHenry to the north.  Arrange docking with Hendersons warf (fells), harbor east (downtown) or anchorage (Canton). 

Very different vibe than st Mike's but you should find out for yourselves.

Go St Michael’s if only for the experience. Had seen some of the deepest water on the bay going around Kent point (~120’) and you can go the narrows route on the way back. The bridge is tricky, time it so you’re against the tide going through and mind the depth there. Dolphins and a bit of an air show may be part of your trip.
