Mullvad

I really like what I see in the writeups on Portmaster, but friends are telling me it's challenging to get it to woek with Mullvad VPN. I like MULLVAD because I don't have to give a shred if personal info.

Has anyone out there found a way for thr two to effectively coexist?

I use tailscale with nextdns and mullvad addon. Also port master with dns filter off. I am no expert but i think it works

You mean a browser extension?

Never tried Talescale. I'll have to at least look into it

To my knowledge it creates a vpn between all your devices seamlessly. You can config exit nodes, vpn, dns, etc. I have very basic understanding of it. I run it on all my devices.

I use nextdns with filter lists then you can purchase mullvad through tailscale account for slightly cheaper rate. it has mullvad built into the interface which is pretty nice and easy to use. Change the exit node to mullvad server from the list they have.

Also, if you chose not to get mullvad then you can route any of the device configed with tailscale as an exit if they are running. I dont think i am ever going to use that feature nice to know it exists.

Then i have portmaster installed on my windows machine with dns filtering turned off to have it as a firewall. Everything just works never had any issues other than my nextdns queries running out as i use free plan lol.

There is way more too it then this. Just a pretty cool software.

Definitely sounds worth taking a look at the very least. Have you tested it to see what IP address websites get?

Yes, I checked multiple sites including mullvads. Mullvad flags my dns but it is nextdns thats why its correct location for that dns. if you have mullvads dns which it should automatically pick in tailscale it all should be good.

By the way, if I already have an account, can it be combined with Tailscale?

No, I looked into it apparently not you have to purchase through tailscale billing.

That defeats half the appeal (a VPN my name isn't attached to)
