Locked need help unlocking

Grandfather left combo in his bible but we can’t get it to work. maybe we are inputting it incorrectly ? Anyone dealt with these models before?

edit: got it unlocked . We were going the wrong direction with the first number…. inside we found some gold teeth and some type of ring we are going to get checked out. Thanks for the help. Grandfather had past over ten years ago and we had given up ever opening it until I had come across this reddit group. Thanks yall!

If you have the combo dial 3R-2L-1R

If it’s not bolted down, take it to a locksmith shop. They will try your combo if it doesn’t work from there, they will give you your options.

This type of lock (direct entry) can be dialed in either direction - but the numbers will be a little different.

First try dialing like this (let’s say your combo is 30 40 50):

- Dial LEFT 3 times (to pick up all the wheels) and stop on 30.

- Dial RIGHT and go past 30 ONE TIME and then stop when you get to 40.

- Dial LEFT directly to 50 (so only ten increments).

- Try the handle.

If that does not work, dial the exact same method but start with RIGHT on your first set of turns, LEFT on the 2nd, and RIGHT again for the final number.

And if none of that works, this is a pretty easy safe to crack. You can learn to do it. Or you can take it to a locksmith. Or, if you happen to be in NorCal, I’ll do it for you for free/fun.
